Signs of a Palmer trade?

08:04 AM ET 03.10 | While the Bengals insist they won't trade disgruntled quarterback Carson Palmer, some signs may suggest otherwise. First off, the belief around the league is that Palmer's threat to retire if untraded is not an empty one. The Southern California native has two young kids, tens of millions in the bank and a wife who doesn't like the Cincinnati area. The Bengals know this. More directly, look at the recent behavior of Cincy's coaching staff. ... New offensive coordinator Jay Gruden casually referred to Cedric Benson as someone who could carry the ball "20 to 25 times a game if we need to if we have the young quarterback." When Gruden mentions a "young quarterback," he's not referring to the 31-year-old Palmer.

One thing Palmer has going for him is a smart wife!

Someone will take him.

If the wife doesn't want to live there, then it would be better for sanity sake to move.

Who knows...maybe the Bengals might select Cam Newton. It's not like anyone is expecting the Bengals to make the playoffs if there is a season in 2011

also not like Mike Brown has scouting, or would listen to a good suggestion, either

I can the niners trying for him.

that right there takes them out of any discussion for the playoffs regardless of what year you are talking about.

It's not like FN hasn't been babbling about this for the last three months or anything...

March 10, 2011  08:26 AM ET

What? Carson Palmer isn't happy in Cincinatti? Why haven't we heard about this before now? You would think, with all the vast resources of FN, that we would have had a Carson-Palmer-wants-to-be-traded thread like every 3 days since the regular season ended. Why are we just finding out about this now. [/sarcasm]

You may have just created a trend....

[sarcasm] Palmer is the man!![/sarcasm]

When the mrs. isn't happy, heads will roll... I don't think it's just my household, either. I think he is good as gone.

March 10, 2011  08:41 AM ET

I Guess Carson doesn't have any Bengal Blood running through him.

it wouldn't surprise me to see him get his career back on track in a much better environment. How can a QB succeed with the front office they have there? Cincy will be another place where QB's go to die.

March 10, 2011  08:42 AM ET

Palmer is smart to leave Cincy now. He only has a few more good years left and why spend them in with a franchise that features washed up clowns like TO OCHO and no Defense.

March 10, 2011  08:50 AM ET

He sux anyway, fool a team into giving high draft picks for this bum!

March 10, 2011  08:52 AM ET

Once Palmer is traded, the excuses ends...

Not much excuse for bad ownership, but it's the best excuse they've got.
