Hope on horizon for Avs

08:30 AM ET 03.11 | Stefan Elliott may help Avs fans see a silver lining to the close of the 2010-11 season. He's about to set the WHL's all-time record for points by a defenseman, 239, set by Pat Price for Saskatoon in 1974. Elliott entered the weekend one point shy of the mark, with several games still left on the Blades' schedule. ... Elliott is Exhibit A of why the Avs felt they could offload Kevin Shattenkirk as part of the blockbuster a couple weeks ago with St. Louis. The Avs are hoping the 6-2 kid with good range and good offensive instincts can be a more complete player than Shatty at both ends. There are questions about his strength level and overall toughness perhaps, but from a couple of scout types I've talked to in the last few days, they think Elliott could be a real deal Holyfield guy for the Avs.

They shouldn't have traded Chris Stewart in the process though...

"Real Deal Holyfield guy"? Ha, almost spit out my beverage. Though, Evander WAS the Commander, ha.

Besides the terminology, how can there be questions about strength and toughness, and he still be considered worthy of that kind of praise? Especially if its only a couple scout TYPES who see it? What the he// is a scout type?

Nice. So this is what you hang your hat on? How your kids are doing in the Jrs?

I wonder if Sacco has a bumper sticker saying "My 2nd round draft pick is a potential record breaker."

If the horizon you speak of is anything like the subject of your pic, then they'll be waiting for a long while for the sun to rise. ;-)

Agreed. I like Stewart. They'll miss him in Colorado before long.

Too many times I've seen offensive minded younsters get caught and a 2 on one break out behind him. Nice if you were a Bobby Orr, or Lindstrom type though.

Wake me when the p-offs start.

Not much love for the Avs today.

Chaco says, no he's not, and why don't you just stick your finger a little closer.

Not Howard, Wings goalie, behind the net saying "Oh, Oh!!"

Close call, but a win. Still poorly played.
