Roach: Martinez is 'not a good fighter'

03:17 PM ET 03.11 | The one quote from Freddie Roach that caught my attention was about another fighter: reigning middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. Roach said, "He's a good bike rider, but not a good fighter." In Regards to Martinez, who was once a professional bike rider. Sounds like a lot of talk from someone who wants Martinez too make a significant weight concession to fight Manny Pacquiao.

I had the pleasure of meeting Roach before the Pac vs Hatton fight and he was the nicest man ever. Once introduced he was waving me over the rest of the weekend and introducing me to everyone.

With that said if this quote is true and I have my doubts since he is over seas right now training Pac he is out of his mind. Martinez is a wonderful boxer.

Where did they get this quote? Is CNNSI now using the Examiner for sporting news? Pretty awful if they are. Who is it that wrote this for the Examiner, people should know that any of us could put up articles on there.

Only one way to find out...after Manny fights Shane, if Floyd won't fight...meet Sergio at a catch weight of 152 or so...

Martinez can't make that weight anymore. The guy walks around at 175. Fight for the middleweight title or don't do it all. I don't feel Pac needs to prove himself vs Martinez. If they want to make the fight great, but do it at a weight Martinez won't be the walking dead.

It would be a good fight, but I doubt Manny would go that high. His camp said, his fight with Margarito would be as high as he goes...so I doubt he would fight at 160lbs...but if Martinez would come down a bit, they could make it, even if it was at 154lbs...I know he must have trouble making that weight, but if the money is right, and their respecitve Pound for Pound bragging rights on the line, I bet they could make it happen at somewhere around Jr. Middleweight...its been a couple years and four or so fights ago, but I bet for Manny Sergio would make it happen. I would get excited for a bout for Manny with Floyd, Bradley, Khan, or Berto/Ortiz winner...but if Manny wants to fight a couple more years like he says, knock off the guys underneath you on the lb for lb list....oh and I forgot Marquez on that list....

Roach is just yanking Martinez to get in his head a little bit.

Fight night the weight all goes back on or off anyway. So, Pac would be 150 and Martinez would be 165. Either way, Pac still beats the guy. I would like to see Pac just go into the fight at 145 VS Martinez at 175. Just concede the weight. He still wins. :D

People think Pac is superman. He isn't. Go back and look at his fights vs Marquez. He was schooled in those fights. Martinez has a jab, counters well and throws with a lot of power. Manny won't take the fight and I don't see him winning it either.

I would favor Martinez over Pacquiao .......even if they fight at a catchweight.....you should check out the TD on it.....

Yeah, those fights were very close......I've seen both of them many times...very close fights.....both could have gone either way
