Meriweather's Patriots future unclear

10:39 AM ET 03.12 | Given Brandon Meriweather's alleged involvement in a shooting in Florida late last month, one has to wonder about his future as a Patriot. Coach Bill Belichick and the organization must be pondering what to do with the two-time Pro Bowl safety. Guilty or innocent of the crime of which he's being accused -- shooting two men -- it's one more incident on his resume that makes you scratch your head. While there was nothing new to report on the investigation yesterday, with Meriweather apparently not yet questioned by police about the Feb. 28 incident, there could be some fallout on the football front down the road.

Shouldn't this be in the T&R Police Blotter thread?

Sounds like someone has a future playing in Cincinnati.

I would say he's gone.

I suspect that once player transactions are in play, Little Bill will get rid of him.

He is accused of an incident 12 days ago, and has yet to be questioned by the police?

No. Rumor has it there was video but he quickly hired the same cops that Rothlisberger had on his payroll to make it go away. Smart businessman.

And with no minicamps or OTAs on the horizon, Meriweather's calendar should be open for the foreseeable future.

i'll never understand how these idiot athletes dont just remove themselves from these situations...just leave...

March 12, 2011  12:44 PM ET

The only reason why this is a story is because the lawyer who is representing the two injured men leaked Meriweather's name to the media when all he had was just an accusation. The two men allegedly didn't cooraperate with the police at the Hospital, so there was no police report written.

With that being said, Meriweather is an over-rated safety who takes horrible angles and isn't listening to what the Coaches are telling him. That head-shot he put on Todd Heap shows a lot about his character. Please cut him, he is not a true Patriot.

He is related to half the people in the incident. Ya don't just walk out of a family reunion. show some manners.

He should check out the Ravens if and when there is a CBA they dont have a shooter yet, just a stabber and a DUI homicide, why not go for the trifecta

It's just this prevalent thug culture that black athletes are into. Alot of them grow up in ghettos and just aren't smart enough to leave that all behind once they become millionaires... what I said may not sound the most PC, but usually political correctness and reality are two very different things.
