McNair's injury raises eyebrows

Steve McNair will be out at least two to three weeks with a shoulder injury, which means Kyle Boller will be the Ravens' starting quarterback Sunday against the Browns. McNair suffered a partial dislocation in his nonthrowing shoulder late in Sunday's 21-7 loss to the Bengals, coach Brian Billick announced on his weekly radio show last night. McNair's injury raised eyebrows because it comes at a point when the Ravens might have been ready to bench the well-respected, four-time Pro Bowl quarterback.

How Convenient

November 14, 2007  05:55 AM ET

If this Baltimore Sun dude is suggesting that McNair is somehow faking it, or the Ravens are faking it for McNair to save face, then he's a ***** (I censored myself to save FN the trouble). From all I've seen and heard over the years, McNair is a true competitor, and I can't see him pussing out like this. It's just not in his genetic makeup. The guy is old and beat up, this was bound to happen. Injuries always catch up to you.

I can't even see his eyebrows with that beanie on.

November 14, 2007  07:15 AM ET

guy's earned the right to go out how he chooses

November 14, 2007  08:30 AM ET

Thisandthat is right on. I dont think there is any way in hades that McNair jakes it.

November 14, 2007  08:33 AM ET

pw - i second that. it hasn't been pretty but let this man move on with respect.

November 14, 2007  08:43 AM ET

He wouldn't go out this way. I'm not a huge fan of his, and I especially don't care for the Titans franchise (I miss the Oilers) but everything I've ever heard about this guy leads me to believe he isn't faking this. LIke it was said by a few guys before, he's old, and he's been beat up for years...it all adds up eventually. Now the Ravens can give Boller ONE MORE CHANCE for the rest of the season to see if he can actually handle the job this time. If not, they have the off-season to find someone who can

November 14, 2007  10:41 AM ET

Its about time! With Boller behind center they are going to go downfield more and have the opportunity to move the ball on offense. If they have any shot of making the playoffs this was the kind of move they had to make.

November 14, 2007  11:04 AM ET

They have a heisman winning QB on the bench, maybe they should try him out for a game. He can't do any worse than McNair or Boller have.

November 14, 2007  11:11 AM ET

I hate to see McNair in the twilight of his career fumbling and bumbling around. This guy was an elite player at one point. I'm dismayed to see his legacy marred by going to an offensive quagmire like the Ravens.

November 14, 2007  11:21 AM ET

McNair is a true professional. The truth is, he probably has been playing hurt before this. The coach and he most likely kept it to themselves figuring a hurt Mc Nair was better than what Boller. was doing. Does not matter, if he was healthy and putting up numbers like 2 tds 4 ints 7 fumbles, you would bench him anyways. I hope he seriously considers retiring after the year is done. It is almost painful to watch him move around now.;

How dumb are the Ravens??? MCNAIR SUCKSSSS!!!!
he has nothing, not a grea arm, poor accuracy, slow and always injured. The guy is a joke, he should have never started.
The ravens have always been a lost cause!!!

November 14, 2007  01:19 PM ET

pennstater troy smith, from what i hear, will play some sunday vs. cleveland and be the backup QB to boller as well.

thomlinson21 you can't blame the ravens entirely for his collapse because look at last year he won 13 games for them !!!

November 14, 2007  01:21 PM ET

hey sunny the ravens weren't a lost cause when they won a superbowl and made multiple playoff appearances including 13 wins last year. i clicked on your team to see who your team is but you don't list one. i'm eager to see who your favorite team is; perhaps they're a "lost cause" too?! how were the ravens dumb considering the 13 wins how would they have thought they had a QB problem until he bombed this year ? you know hindsight is 20/20, right ? if he should have never started then who did you expect to start ? boller ? are you serious ? next time do some research before you mindlessly pop-off, thanks !

McNair had his day, but it's over. And has been over for awhile.

November 14, 2007  02:46 PM ET

I'd put Troy Smith in. He can't do any worse than Boller or McNair have. He's a dual threat QB.

Might as well see what he can do, don't want to miss the boat with him like they did with Anderson.

November 14, 2007  04:51 PM ET

He's been playing with pain for YEARS now. It's just caught up to him. He's a warrior, and there's no doubt about that.
