NFLPA may push for draft boycott

08:04 AM ET 03.15 | The NFL Players Association has reportedly considered organizing a boycott to keep top prospects from attending the draft. There is no official arrangement or edict from the NFLPA, which after filing for decertification Friday, now classifies itself as a trade association. The NFLPA met and held conference calls with top agents about this topic prior to the Super Bowl and, as NFL Network and NFL.com reported, there was strong support among numerous top agents to boycott the draft entirely. ... Furthermore, several top agents have broached to me the possibility that veteran players could try to picket in Manhattan near Radio City Music Hall, where the draft is held, in the event a lockout is ongoing that weekend.

Pizz off the fans even more!

I wish someone would come out and say we want more money and insurance. I would respect that more than the lieing about how we love the fans. If you loved the fans then the games would be reasonably priced so it can be a family outing. As it stands now you have to get another mortgage to go to a game.

Someone should tell these geniuses that fan support leans heavily towards the players right now but if they start pulling this kind of sheet they risk driving those fans to the owners side. Messing with the draft would just seem petty and stupid.

Wow, way to go after the kids who still have dreams and haven't been completely corrupted yet. Well, those who didn't play the same college ball as Bush did anyway.

So they hold the draft with no players present. Goodell will hate missing out on hugging and groping all those big, manly young dudes, but the show must go on.

All the players could wear those "I'm with Stupid" t-shirts with the arrows on them, all pointing to Roger Goodell.

Give NHL hockey or college hockey another chance in the fall, when there's nothing else to watch. HD TV really improves the "experience" of watching hockey.

Radio City Music Hall? Pretty fancy for an unemployment office. The owners are going to try to get more players to show up by offering free gloves with no fingers and a free can of Sterno.

what is the point of a draft if there is no season...thats like getting these kids all pumped up to play pro ball and then saying "oh yeah by the way you may be drafted but your not allowed at the stadium and your not gonna get paid, but on a better note, your the #1 draft pick"

March 15, 2011  08:49 AM ET

Decisions, decisions. Should a draftee pack a new suit or old jeans for NYC, or just stay at school and skip class.

You left out the NFL can draft them but the team that drafts them CANNOT SIGN THEM.
No contract. Nothing. But remember. The owners wanted it this way. They set it all up for a lockout and opting out of the old CBA,

It's sad to see that it has come to this...

This is not a good moment for the players...it shows pettyness and weakness. Let the players have there moment at the draft.

Exactly. It seems pretty easy for guys who've already enjoyed their draft day to say that others can't.

Shwing!

March 15, 2011  09:05 AM ET

Terrible for the families of the players being drafted....unless your Joe Thomas who has an annual draft day tradition of going fishing.

March 15, 2011  09:06 AM ET

Let the kids have their day. We're watching the draft and the draft goes on regardless.

It seems to me the NFLPA is still acting as a union despite decertifying and saying they are not a union. Why cant some judge see beyond this BS and slap these greedy B******S down in court. Force them to negotiate in good faith and lets get football back.
