Florida shakes up QB depth chart

08:21 AM ET 03.15 | Though it's going underground to some degree, Florida's spring practice is set to open -- with a less-crowded backfield. The Gators used three quarterbacks last year, signed two in this recruiting class and seemingly had a logjam at that position. But Jordan Reed and Trey Burton, who played under center last year to make up for John Brantley's inability to run the ball, won't be playing QB under new coach Will Muschamp. The changes to the depth chart were one of many topics that Muschamp, offensive coordinator Charlie Weis and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn discussed in a press conference on Monday. The Gators enter spring football with Brantley listed first on the depth chart, followed by rising sophomore Tyler Murphy and freshman Jeff Driskel.

Hopefully the Fat Man will get Brantley ready for the fall.

What type offense is planned?

Pro-style. Probably similar to the offense the Fat Man ran at ND, but incorporate fast WRs.

I suppose, given the move away from the spread, its not surprising that TB and JR would become non-factors at QB.

BS&B, what are you hearing about Murphy and Driskel? All I hear is the hype around Driskel, nothing of substance. And how is Murphy rising, what's the deal there? Inform us TX Gators, brother!

I thought Brantley did not show very well, maybe he just needed time to settle in and get over the "new kid" adjustments, and get past the "he's not Tebow", don't think it will be that quick to get past that, it will linger on for a long time.

Brantley was a square peg in a round hole offense. I (and the rest of Gator Nation) expected Addazio and Meyer to tweek the offense to a more pro style.

The Fat Man looks like he is getting some sun.

I'm psyched about Floyd & Easley starting at defensive tackle. Our D is going to be awesome. Powel is going to be a beast. Elam will have a learning curve at S, but is a play-maker.

Can't wait 'til the O&B game.

I have not heard much about Driskel or Murphy but practice has not started yet. Last year I heard Murphy described as a Chris Leak type with better running ability (just not as far along as Chris was as a freshman). Driskel is expected to be #2 by the end of the spring, but it is an "OR" on the depth chart between the two freshman.

To me Easley has been disappointing so far, he is one of the freshman that was mentioned having problems with work ethic and confronting senior leadership. That is a big reason Leon Orr moved to DT. Floyd and Powell should be pretty good on the inside. The real question is pass rush, the same as last year.

Interested in seeing Chris Martin (5 star transfer from Cal) at DE/LB. I wonder where Powell will be playing.

I'm sure the fat man has more than his share of shakes...just hope he doesn't eat a player with it.

What does UF have for running backs and OL?

RBs should be good. Demps, Rainey, Gillislee, Mack Brown (#4 RB recruit last year), and Blakely.

Demps and Rainey are super fast on the outside. Gillislee is a hard runner.

I don't want to even think about the O-line. At least this year the O-line coach will be devoted to fixing the O-line, not making bad playcalls.

I heard Reed is going back to TE and Burton will be a S...Basically they are saying Driskell/Murphy looks good in the 7on7s they have, the practice sessions w/ out the coaches..Powell most likely be lining up at DE

From the sound bites of Mus in the pre Spring practice interviews: Burton will play every position except QB. Reed will be a TE
