08:04 AM ET 03.16 | The 49ers are reportedly sending quite a crew to Reno for a private workout with Nevada quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Friday. Head coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Trent Baalke are expected to be on hand. Nevada has several draft-worthy players this season, including defensive end/outside linebacker Dontay Moch and tight end Virgil Green. The school will hold its pro day on March 22. The headliner of the group, however, is Kaepernick, and the 49ers will get an early look. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Kaepernick has the strongest arm of any quarterback in this draft, and he led the Wolf Pack to a 13-1 record this past season. ... He also was a very good runner and is the only player in NCAA history with more than 4,000 rushing yards to go along with more than 10,000 passing yards.

A strong arm is a good start to rebuilding that franchise.

I would think they would be looking for a veteran, not a rookie, who will take years to develop.

That's fine with me, as I'm sure many 9ers fans are fine with it. Bottom line, there is no #1 QB prospect, he went back to school (wisely, now). So, they won't be missing out on "the guy". All the QB's have their individual issues here and there, so a late first round or early 2nd round is good. I thought they would have taken Ponder early 2nd. This would be good to take pressure of the rookie to succeed, take pressure of the coaching staff to start him and take pressure off the GM in did he make the right choice.
If this happens, then either of the two Smiths stays (I'd say Alex) or Carr. Or, another possibility, they sign Palmer. Palmer is an 8 year vet (granted he sat his first year) with an injury history, who has not lived to his potential. If they could sign Palmer to a 1 or 2 or 2 or 3 year contract, they could let Kaepernick sit behind him. I still think that Alex Smith is going to improve under Harbaugh.

If any of the mock drafts come to fruition and Patrick Peterson is still around at pick number seven, he'd BETTER be hoisting a crimson jersey at the podium. Assuming, of course, that he attends.

If the dude hoisting that jersey isn't a QB, I think we all know which direction SF will be headed.

Makes more sense looking at this kid in the middle rounds than taking Newton #1...

He smiles like a politician in that pic. Guess he backpedals like one, too.

New coaches always want their guy... a young guy. I fully expect the 49ers to draft a QB this year or at the latest next year if Harbaugh thinks there is any chance he can reunite with Luck.

They won't use the seventh pick in this draft on him, but he might be around for the second round. Maybe. A lot of QB starved teams ahead of them in every round.

Actully, "Had" him. He's on Seattle now. Also, he was dyslexic and could not learn all the plays. Singletary didn't like him because he was lazy.
