If Irving's there, Cavs like him at No. 1

08:13 AM ET 03.16 | To the victors -- of the lottery, that is -- go the spoils. The Cavaliers entered this season targeting the need for another point guard. They had two candidates in mind. Both are turning in career years. As June's NBA draft approaches, Cavs coach Byron Scott and general manager Chris Grant have already proved they can target young point guards with upside. That's a good thing, since Duke's Kyrie Irving continues to sit atop most draft boards despite barely playing this season. Nothing will obviously be known until the draft lottery on May 17, but if the Cavs come away with the top pick in the draft, don't be surprised if they use it on Irving. Grant had a chance to watch Irving play live earlier this season before he was injured, and the Cavs have been high on him ever since.

Spammer first! How sad for T & R!

He's got al the potential in the world, but he's barely played
I actually feel bad for cav management as they really need to hit it right and he's talented, but the lack of seeing him vs legit competition makes him a risk and I don't know if they can afford to take a 'rsk'

Too early to even declare who you want to pick...

makes you wonder what teams thinks about nolan smith.

Is Irving the next MJ? If not, then pick someone else! Still too early though

I hope Kyrie stays another year. He could use the Coach K guidance, and Duke can use his talents. If he stays everybody wins.

can't wait to see what kind of impact he will have in the tournament.

I wish he could play in the tournament. Him on the court would almost guarantee a Duke Final Four spot.

He is practicing and coach K said he is likely to play

Kemba Walker.

Pair him with Austin Rivers and if the Plumlees both stay they have a great squad with the little curry kid and some of their random shooters

What you need to remember is CAVS of two Lottery Picks theirs & LA Clips ...... one pG, sF, .....

Kyrie or Walker at pG / Barnes or Williams at sF ...

LeFlake will put a Curse on CAVS, dropping CAVS down to #4 pick

How did I miss this??? OH GOD PLEASE LET KYRIE PLAY!!!

Coach K doesn't typically blow smoke -so I'd say he has a limited role in the first two games and if he's looking good after another week (if they are still alive) he'll get more clock

Coach K says there's a good chance he will play Friday. He won't start and won't be on the floor for extended minutes, but just having him back at all will be huge.

Nolan Smith has looked darn good at the 1 ...but taking him off the ball is where he plays his best. Duke would be very dangerous and my mind the favorite if Irving is 80-85% of what he was in those first 8 games
