Feliz switch may mean Rangers deal

08:15 AM ET 03.16 | If not Neftali Feliz, then to whom will the Rangers turn in the ninth inning? Manager Ron Washington indicated that the answer to that question probably isn't in Surprise at the moment. "I have confidence in Jon Daniels and our scouts," Washington said Tuesday morning. "If that's the case, I'm 100 percent sure they'll go out there and find somebody to close ballgames down for us." Washington likes the depth in his bullpen. He just doesn't know whether anybody other than Feliz, who had a rookie-record 40 saves last season, can handle the closer role on a consistent basis. And the Rangers, who intend to earn another pennant, don't want to deal with uncertainty in such an important role.

This move does not make any sense. You need a closer who will win you the close games.

Maybe they can offer the right deal for Venters or Kimbrel, if the Braves have enough confidence in the rest of their middle relief.

Well, it comes down to economics. I have no clue if this guy can be a front of the rotation guy, but aces are much more valuable than closers, even the "greatest closer of all time". Ace starters are paid roughly double or more than top closers. If the front office thinks he's an ace in waiting, we saw it with Santana, then a starter he will be.

huh i know a team up in beantown that could possibly have three guys capable of being closers for a lot of teams. wouldnt mind a paps, iglesias, scutaro deal for andrus and a prospect or two come july 31st.

You can have Borbon instead of Andrus.

lol rangers can keep borbon, everything out of boston seems like iglesias and andrus arent that far apart in all around skill levels, id even do a drew for murphy or young swap

Drew for Murphy? hahahaha. A hardnosed player for a guy who wouldn't know good health if it bit him in the ass? no thanks on that too!

Closers are much easier to find than No. 1 starters. Good move, Texas.
Here is a question: Didn't Texas trade Frank Francisco, a former closer, to Toronto just a couple of months ago? Why?

just another lazy SI stupid story. feliz stays as closer. rangers have plenty of candidates for the remaining spots in rotation. if they all fail or fall short, mid year is when they make a move. but they also have webb and feldman in the pipeline coming along.

Why not give Martin Perez a shot. It worked with one super prospect, why not another?

I think the Yankees have a spare closer. What would he be worth to the Rangers?
