L.A. teams leading Cabrera hunt

07:51 AM ET 11.14 | In the eyes of the Florida Marlins, the Angels and the Dodgers are the teams most likely to acquire star third baseman Miguel Cabrera, a baseball source said Tuesday. The Marlins made that assessment after surveying interested teams at last week's general managers meetings in Florida. It is uncertain whether the Angels and Dodgers are pursuing Cabrera the hardest or whether the Marlins simply rank the Angels and Dodgers as having the best young talent among potential trade partners. The Marlins would like the Angels to include second baseman Howie Kendrick and top pitching prospect Nick Adenhart in any trade and would like the Dodgers to include pitcher Chad Billingsley or top pitching prospect Clayton Kershaw, perhaps both.

how one of the big money teams get him since it will mean payrod has one less place to shop himself

hope*

cute

November 14, 2007  10:06 AM ET

Great T&R...so what you are saying is one of the teams that are interested in him will end up getting him? Great reporting there...

November 14, 2007  10:53 AM ET

But that increases the chance for BORAROD to go to Boston...
Brrrrr...

I blogged on this (http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/77776)

NY Daily News reports that A-Rod is going to negotiate directly with the Yanks since there is no market for him outside the Yanks. A lot of face saving going on in many directions.

No way Angels were going to pay A-Rod twice what they pay Vlad.

November 14, 2007  12:17 PM ET

One gets Cabrera one gets A-Rod, maybe.

November 14, 2007  12:35 PM ET

If the Dodgers trade Kershaw, that will be a big mistake.

November 14, 2007  01:11 PM ET

Funny...Fannation doesn't mention that I'm in the hunt for his cornfed ****. I got me a special hunting permit...a passle of hollow points and enugh beans an frijole's to bate him in.

Larry B,

You are like correct. However, both of these guys are capable of playing other positions. Miguel can and has played RF, A-Rod could move back to his natural position of SS. You never know.

Or, "No Soup for Him"

November 14, 2007  02:11 PM ET

I think the Dodgers should hang on to their top prospects, as the asking price for Cabrera is too much so far. The Dodgers need their pitching prospects at least as much as they need Cabrera. Billingsley is a front line starter, and Clayton Kershaw is on the way by '09, we all know that. The Dodgers would be better off paying the big bucks to Sign one of the free agent 3rd baseman, and trading for Santana.

LADSince73....get your own schtik stimey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 of the best young players/prospects for cabrera ? tell the marlins to shove it dodgers..... i say trade for rolen and have nomar and rolen platoon at third, and go after tori or andrew without having to wipe out your farm system ... hopefully the marlins get stuck with cabrera till the allstar break and have to settle for something half of the kings ransom that they are asking for..

November 14, 2007  05:29 PM ET

Why is that every time there's a rumor to go around, the LA based teams are always 1-2? Cabrera's probably going to be dealt before the New Year..., my bet is the Angels. Can't see Florida trading him to the Dodgers..., especially if ARod winds up there!

November 14, 2007  06:51 PM ET

This just proves that A-Rod is THE story of this winter, if FanNation is any indication. 212 coments in his thread, only 17 on this one.

November 14, 2007  11:07 PM ET

Cabrera is a much better fit with the Angels than with the Dodgers, him and Vladamir would make a great 1-2 punch a la Papy-Manny

November 15, 2007  12:23 AM ET

neither of the LA teams should make this trade. the dodgers have a good maybe great started in billingsley and kershaw neither should be traded. the angels shouldnt trade kendricks because kendricks when he wasnt injured could hit he will probably great someday. o and the dodgers shouldnt trade ethier, kemp, or loney.

November 15, 2007  01:39 AM ET

I dont see why Kendrick is not expandable for a guy like Cabrera, he has no power or great speed, 2B is not such a crucial position (unless you are a guy like Kent or Soriano) like 3B, which demands an RBI power hitter that the Angels lack. Figgins could fill in nicely at 2B

Yeah, the Angels get Cabrera and Moreno renames the team Los Angeles de Los Angeles. Will they have any non Latinos left on that team. I hear Scoscia is changing his first name to Miguel.
