08:08 AM ET 03.17 | While Deron Williams hasn't made any statement so declarative, Avery Johnson is sure. Johnson on Wednesday stood by a claim he made Tuesday on the radio that there is "no doubt" the team will be able to re-sign point guard Deron Williams when he becomes a free agent. "I have no doubt and I'm really, really confident that we'll be able to re-sign him," Johnson said after practice today. "What am I supposed to say -- I'm leery? All signs that I've seen and heard is that as we move forward that he'll be in a Nets uniform." ... The Nets can re-sign Williams to a contract extension this summer, but not before July 18. The current collective bargaining agreement runs out June 30, and if the NBA locks out its players on July 1, as is expected, the Nets will not be able to re-sign Williams until after an agreement is reached between the NBA and its players.

Avery Johnson won't quit on this team if that's what you mean. Wouldn't you want a job that pays in rubles and vodka? Nyet?

But if you mean he'll get fired, not a chance. He's too inspirational at the moment.

I disagree...the life of an NBA coach is usually short lived at one location. Especially when the team isn't that great. Coaches are the first things to go in the NBA when teams need to make a "change".

I never implied he'd quit merely that the life of an NBA coach on a crappy team is short lived.

The Nets are going to spend some money and if they get a good shooting guard(Jimmer)in the draft and keep the young players that are gelling right now. The Nets will be able to keep Williams. He knows that they are a team of the future. Lopez is one of the best young big men in the league and Williams can play with him. And the New York Nets is going to sound Real good!

Clueless in NJ Avery.

D-Will was in Utah of all places I would think New Jersey would be a step up considering the move to Brooklyn.
