Sox not sold on Salty, Nats looking for an arm

08:17 AM ET 03.17 | Washington and Boston may have some pieces to swap. The Nationals are looking for a veteran back-of-the-bullpen arm. They would seem likely to deal from their catching surplus, but clubs that have asked about Wilson Ramos are being told they're not interested in dealing him because they think he's ready to catch regularly sooner, not later. ... The Red Sox continue to sing Jarrod Saltalamacchia's praises. But they've been quietly poking around, asking about catching that could become available. Could bullpen depth could make them a match for the Nationals? Just asking.

yeah, add me to the list of people not sold on Salty.

March 17, 2011  08:29 AM ET

Add me as well. I'm just hoping he can be at least serviceable

March 17, 2011  08:39 AM ET

Ditto here. I could not find any good argument whey the Sox traded for him. He was a non-factor in Texas.

I hope Salt isnt the player I think he is. I hope that he can hit ..285 and knock in 85 RBI. I dont think so.. but I can hope.. I'm ok with dealing for a young catcher.. Just dont touch WAKE!

That's FUNNY..

this is the year for Boston; Theo will do whatever it takes at this point considering the investments that have already been made during the off season...

Perfect. I couldn't have said it better.

I'm not sold on him. On the other hand I haven't written him off either. He did a pretty nifty job of throwing Granderson out Monday, and helped set the Belliard CS as well. His .263 BA is nothing to write home about, but it's significantly above the Mendosa line. Add in a few RBIs for the spring season, and it's clear he's more than holding his own.

He's no Mauer or Johnny Bench. But who the heck is? There just isn't that much durable talent out there at the C spot right now. No use letting perfect be the enemy of good enough when he isn't holding back what is otherwise a very strong lineup.

I think listening to any of these morons for more than a few seconds causes more brain rot than too much whacky weed.

Seth MacFarlane's introduction was spot on - he just reached his 15th minute of fame. And seeing that he was on stage for five comedy-free minutes, I think the clock has officially run out. That audience could not have gotten any more quiet if someone had asked for a moment of silence for Japan. At least until the boo birds came out....

boston got taken. will hit around his weight during the season. salty is maybe a bullpen c/backup. if he had the talent he would be in texas, where brass includes guys named sundberg and ryan who both know a little bit about the position.

Over all, was the roast funny, though? I haven't gotten a chance to watch it yet.

I'm ok with waiting to see if he can produce any tangible results in the first couple of months of the season before dumping on him. Theo had to have seen something in him to bring him in. That said, there is never anything wrong with adding talent to the 40-man roster and getting a near-ready catching prospect in exchange for some bullpen depth just makes good sense, regardless of who is starting with the big club.

****-k for bryce harper...done deal

Where is a better catcher deal out there?

At the end of the day, it's all about the alternate scenarios. And there just aren't that many to be had.

I would think that anything disparaging Donald Trump would by definition be funny.

by investments you mean letting martinez go

I wouldn't think so. I'd think he was refering to the trade for Gonzalez and signing of Crawford as well as agressively addressing the bullpen issues, but I don't want to speak for 20.

They were smart to let Martinez go.

I have no idea what Theo was thinking on this one, but I tend to agree. V-Mart's usefulness behind the plate was waning, and the Sox don't need more DHs or 1Bs. Nice bat, but... too easily stolen on.
