Jackson's 'Brokeback' remark

Coach Phil Jackson was reprimanded by the NBA, but not fined, because of an off-color remark he made Tuesday night after the Lakers lost to San Antonio. Jackson was trying to explain how the Lakers' defense kept allowing Spurs players to penetrate the lane and kick the ball out to teammates on the perimeter for open shots. We call this a 'Brokeback Mountain' game because there's so much penetration and kick-outs," Jackson said. "It was one of those games." The Oscar-winning movie portrayed two cowboys who hid a homosexual affair.

You have GOT to be kidding me. The coach lets you into the world of the athlete with an unfiltered comment and UP GO THE ARMS of protest.

Lighten up, people. It's a context, not a moral commentary. It's basketball, not the Supreme Court.

I think Phil realizes the true players that the NBA had until your older players retired MAGIC*DRJ*BIRD*ISIAH*JORDAN*RUSSELL*WILT,ROBERTSON just to name a few. When winning was important not shoe sales and contracts. Why do you think that the NFL rules.Teach new school the
fundamentals of the game.

Do you really think any real NBA fans took offense to this comment??????? Ithought it was funny, and so did the reporters who heard it live!!!!!!!! And I am not a Jackson fan!!!!! Most overrated coach in history!!!!!!!!!

His apology was WAY better. Especially when he apologized to the horses that he may have offended.

November 15, 2007  08:14 AM ET

Classic! Anyone that has a problem with his comment is truly BROKE BACK.

November 15, 2007  09:12 AM ET

Goodness! They found something to talk about other that Kobe...

November 15, 2007  09:19 AM ET

I also liked the way he thanked ESPN for making a big issue out of it. ESPN ain't what it used to be Phil. It's 1/2 sports and 1/2 TMZ.

"I deserve to be reprimanded by the NBA. If I've offended any horses, Texans, cowboys or ****, I apologize." Phil Jackson is crazy as hell! Hilarious!

November 15, 2007  09:53 AM ET

People just need to lighten up. The comment wasn't insulting in any way...ESPN is ridiculous and so are the morons who feel they were offended.

Hmmm... I wonder if John Amaechi was the offended party.

November 15, 2007  09:56 AM ET

I have a new favorite NBA coach

November 15, 2007  10:01 AM ET

November 15, 2007  10:04 AM ET

What Phil wanted to say was "I went from coaching the Lakers to coaching a bunch of ****!"
That doesn't offend me.

It's the mountain you meet when you hit the Hershey way. C*o*n*d*o*m*s are optional.

November 15, 2007  11:19 AM ET

I thought this was funny. It's time we stop being so politically correct and taking offense to everything said.
