10:48 AM ET 03.20 | Trevor Bayne is not expected to race in the Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 21. Bayne, 20, automatically became eligible for the event with his win in the Daytona 500 last month. However, before the season the Wood Brothers scheduled only 16 races for Bayne.

ya know, call me stupid (help me out here, FLOAT), but i really want to see this kid become a star...when is the last time a "star" came into the cup series? gordon-1993, tony stewart-1998, johnson-2002, kryle busch was around 2002....nascar needs a hot new star for ratings to come back..either that, or junior needs to start winning a lot.

The odds of Jooonya winning a lot are pretty slim, it would be nice if this kid was the next big thing in Nascar. He does seem very laid back and down to earth.

well, ya, re junior, but you hit it right on the head re Trevor Bayne, it would be good for nascar.

Well Frank, don't forget last year's rookie sensation Kevin Conway! You don't win Rookie of the Year by just starting and parking, and not qualifying for all 36 races!

What would be really good if they would drop restrictor plates. Do they think drivers would just floor it until they wind up in the wall?

I just saw a story the other day, Frank, about Mr. Potato Head. I think in the Washington Post, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I thought of you, lol.
I'd love to see Bayne do well, too. Joey Logano hasn't been the phenom they predicted, although he hasn't done too badly, and an 'upstart' is always a boost to a sport. That's why we love the NCAA's in basketball. Moorehead State (and we ALL love Moorehead, right?) beating Louisville was a rush. We need more of it in NASCAR. Personally, I'll get a rush when France/Helton moves on, but who knows when that will happen?

oh GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZ! yeah kevin conway...that shows how far nascar has fallen. Some guy who couldnt sniff the top 25 in any finish gets ROY? WOW!

March 20, 2011  02:53 PM ET

I totally agree with Nascar needing a new star....we need to keep having those, especially since not all of them hang on too long to the first predictions (Logano and Brad K).
Logano and Brad are doing ok but their WOW factor seems to be in storage right now LOL

Kyle Busch is an amazing driver. And he isn't as annoying as he used to be either. I may actually start liking him, but I'm not there yet.
And did anyone else notice that just as Larry Mac was saying, 'Jimmie Johnson has just put Tony Stewart down a lap', and I mean JUST as he said it, there was a 'debris' caution? Coincidence, I'm sure.
And, Paul Menard really is getting better.

was it me, or were there a lot of fans at Bristol dressed up like empty seats?

No -- I would roughly say a good third of the seats were empty ... back in the day a person couldn't find an empty seat. And the classic line by the younger bush (twig?) was "can't we all be friends?" I think the booing is finally catching up to him ...

I wouldn't read that much into it if I were you. His response was no more than a little jab at those who were booing.

Don't see how Bayne can be "the next Nascar superstar" this year if he is only running 16 races, though...

Wood Bros need to find him some sponsorship, and get him into more races. He and the legendary Wood Bros could certainly help one another out--if they can get into more races...

QUOTE(#15):

It should be apparent by now that the Daytona win was just another restrictor plate fluke.

a lot fo restrictor plate wins are totally flukes, and nothing more...kezlowski at Talladega, bobby hamilton some years back at talledega..plate racing is a lot of luck..if you avoid the big one, if you are lucky enough to be in the led pack late, if no one hangs you out late, if you get the bump at the right time late...pretty much all of that needs to happen to win a plate race anymore.

To sum it up -- being in the right place at the right time ... BINGO ... a win!

ya..dats it!
alot of the greatest drivers have had success at plate tracks, i think Dale Sr was the best plate racer ever, but a LOT of fluke wins or great finishes have come at plate tracks..i think DAvid Gillligan was 3rd at DAytona this year....?
