Bengals could be thinking CB Peterson at No. 4

08:07 AM ET 03.21 | Only six defensive backs been taken among the top four picks since the modern draft era began in 1967. But with a cornerback rated by many to be the best athlete in this year's draft, that drought could end this year. For the Bengals, who have the fourth overall pick when the NFL draft begins on April 28, a player like LSU's Patrick Peterson might be too good to pass up. ... While defensive backs are usually one of the highest selected position groups, vaulting into the top four is a rarity. Said Bengals defensive backs coach Kevin Coyle: "It's such a rare position in the sense that there are a lot of guys in the pool, but only a few who turn out to be the elite. When you put the combination of size, speed and athleticism and how they will do at the NFL level, it becomes a difficult position to assess."

That would be too smart a selection for the Bengals, its bad news for him, all that work his whole life and drafted by Cincinnati. Tough break Patrick

Peterson was listed as a one-digit wonder on the Wonderlic test, but that does not necessarily reflect his football intelligence.

I was pretty thrilled with the mock drafts that showed Peterson falling to the Niners at 7. The story about his Wonderlic score has me a little worried. How much, if any, do those scores correlate to football IQ? Will any defense that doesn't call for him to play press, man-to-man defense confuse the guy?

They should go D, no QB worth the #4 pick.

doesn't make much sense. they already have j. joseph, leon hall, and ol adam "make it rain" jones. you would think they have more pressing needs. but then again its the bengals

From what I gather, Joseph isn't going to be a Bengal this year because they aren't going to give him a long term deal because, well..., that ain't how Mikey Brown rolls. So, picking Peterson makes TOTAL sense from a Bungle perspective: why pay a guy you have who has proven himself (somewhat) and knows the system yada yada yada when you can spend even more on a draft pick...

Interestingly, one article indicated Peterson would have difficulty absorbing the Pats defense.

How about Cincy drafting a new coaching staff? And maybe a new owner too.
