Hansbrough's makeshift hot streak will soon end

08:07 AM ET 03.22 | Over the past few weeks, Tyler Hansbrough, a rare bright spot of late in Indianapolis, has averaged 22.4 points and 7.8 rebounds. There's no question that this has been the most productive stretch of Hansbrough's young career, as he scored 20+ points in six of his last eight contests and still managed a double-double against the Boston Celtics in one of the two lesser games. ... Yet once opposing teams begin to make Hansbrough a point of emphasis, his limited athleticism, lack of size and on-and-off jumper -- the very factors that made him a late lottery selection in the NBA draft rather than a top pick -- will sting. ... Even if he is an underrated athlete, Hansbrough simply cannot claim strength, speed or size as an advantage on this level.

LOL....The New York Times acting like they "know" what a good player is.....Classic.....
Also when teams start focusing on T then that means another player is going to be open or guarded a little looser....The guy will never be a #1 but he will make a really good #3 and a ridiculous hustle type of player which few can match...

I must say Tyler has been looking impressive as of late. He could have a solid 15-8 type career.

Don't sleep on Psycho T b/c he has the heart of a champion ('09 NCAA for UNC). He needs more all-star talent to play along side of him and Grainger. When the Pacers get more pieces in place, then the doubters will shut the heck up.

He ran wild opn my Bulls last week. I like the guy. He'll be a solid player for years to come for Indy. Why the heck is the NY times reporting on him anyway...oh yeah... sour grapes. Still sore from 2 T-hans arse whippins.

Agreed and this has surprised me. Thought he would be an 8 and 6 type of backup player off the bench.

Why is this guy still a topic of conversation? Just to point out, there have been some decent players who lacked athleticism e.g. Turkgulo

He is at best a journeyman player. Nothing to get excited over.

To certain people athleticism means only vertical leap. Hansbrough has quick feet and quick hands. He also has a great motor (stamina) and can run the floor with just about any big man. Also, this seems to be a label reserved for caucasians in the NBA. I have never heard anyone say for example that Tim Duncan was "unathletic", even though his skill set doesnt include big hops. Certainly not comparing Psycho T to Timmy, just saying that leaping ability is a good skill but not essential to a good or even great basketball player. I think Hanbrough has demonstrated he can be effective in he NBA. If the NYT is saying don't expect him to drop 29 pts every nite, I don't think that really qualifies as "all the news that's fir to print".

As a pacer fan when he was drafted and everyone was angry I said about 13-15 and 6-8 is about what I expected when he was drafted, anything over that is a bonus to me.

Really New York Times? How many Hansbrough games do you think they've actually watched? This is classic hate, Tyler played well last year before season ending injury and now he's back playing good basketball. I guess its hard to give credit to a player that just plays basketball, doesn't get into trouble or have a big personality just a ball player.
