Ovechkin injury worse than reported?

08:24 AM ET 03.22 | By the time some reporters arrived, Alex Ovechkin was already gone, and the team had announced he's going to miss "somewhere in the neighborhood" of seven to 10 days with an undisclosed injury. (In considering the severity of Ovechkin's injury, it should be noted that the Capitals' public estimates on recovery times aren't always accurate. Eric Fehr, for instance, was listed as day-to-day with a dislocated shoulder for 22 games.) ... Coach Bruce Bodureau referred to Ovechkin's injury as a nagging problem that's afflicted his star winger for months, and Friday's game report shows that Ovechkin skated only 15 minutes 24 seconds against the Devils, his lowest ice time total since being ejected for boarding Chicago defenseman Brian Campbell a year ago.

Best to rest him before the playoffs if he has a lingering injury 'cause he plays pretty much all out all the time.

Get healthy Ovie.

While I agree Stranger, if recent history (last 5 years) serves he won't have to 'suffer' long in the playoffs.

Sorry about that Birdy and Slappy - but I had the shot - there was no danger - so I took it.

Maybe he's just tired of playing 25 minutes a night. I don't care what the Washington Post sports desk believes or doubts. Be rested for the playoffs. That's the only thing important right now. At least they didn't say he has a "lower body" injury which could be anything from his navel to his little toe. BTW, the game he skated in at NJ for "only 15 minutes and 24 seconds" was a 3-0 Caps win. I guess if he skated for 58 minutes and 12 seconds the Post would think his injury had healed?

The Caps are finally playing this smart. Gearing up the team for the playoffs. From their style of play to them not caring about their seeding and resting up for the playoffs. Also playing their best hockey now.

Maybe he's just jealous of all the time off Sid has gotten.

Like Sidney the great 8 will be missed. Like them or not, they are two of the best in the sport. They are good for the game. Get well soon to both!

No offense taken Muammar.

Ovie plays great when there is nothing on the line. he proved that in the playoffs. So much talent but his nerves show in the playoffs.

agree they are playing good right now, I am interested what happens if there is any adversity with the goaltending ...

Yep. Those undisclosed upper or lower body injuries always come in handy when you want to rest your star player.

What? A Flyers fan complimenting Crosby and Ovechkin? What's this world coming to?

What a difference an experienced player can make to a team. Ever since the arrival of Jason Arnott, the Caps are a different team.

And ... what's wrong with adversity? They have, not one, but three good young tenders. A little adversity will separate the men from the boys. They're sitting pretty right where they are, if you were to ask me.

March 22, 2011  10:08 AM ET

Like I keep saying. The Caps are going to lose in the Stanley Cup finals because they were the visiting team in the Winter Classic.

Isn't Arnott hurt?

Hey, everybody! Take a moment and report these spamming roaches to the interns. This is ridiculous. They're spawning everywhere this morning!

**Conspiracy theory alert**

They rest Ovie against the Flyers just to keep Pittsburgh from catching Philly and getting the number 1 seed......

<runs to bookie, puts mortgage money on Phiily>

Do not feel bad Slapshot - at least you know your teams gonna play in the real season. Coach ******Bruce is a ***** genius to let that ****** Ovie heal before playoffs.
