Tomlin: Lockout may help Steelers

08:05 AM ET 03.23 | Mike Tomlin, despite working within an industry where continuity is king, reportedly hasn't spent much time worrying about the lockout. As a matter of fact, he believes a long, protracted lockout might give the Steelers a competitive edge, provided the NFL winds up playing football in 2011. How? He has a veteran team and a veteran coaching staff that played through the Super Bowl on Feb. 6 and would not be doing much anyway right now. ... While a division rival like Cleveland must contend with a new head coach and staff, the Steelers remain consistent in both personnel and in coaching. That could provide a big edge if the NFL owners' lockout continues into the summer, along with it the inability of coaches to even speak with their players, never mind institute new systems.

A lockout helps no one.

As we have seen locally in the past few days here...extra time for NFL players is a bad combination.

Does it give them another excuse why they lost the Super Bowl though? 'It wasn't us we had this fear of getting locked out by the owners and could not concentrate on the game."

I was waiting for the one that said Polamalu hurt himself because he takes longer showers than anyone in the league which made his Achilles Tendon weak

Strippers, Drug Dealers, & any attractive woman 16 (Mark Sanchez age range) to 29 who wants blackmail money likes the extra time off for the players

The article brings up a good point...they last played on February 6th and the lockout in a way gives them extra time to heal from any lingering injuries.

But more time to be stupid. Hear about Dez Bryant?

All that money and still cannot pull up his pants. The best line I saw was maybe he was at the mall to buy a belt.

He's been banned from that mall for 90 days. I see that pulled down pants look with high school kids but not guys his age for the most part. A guy with money, time and an attitude is lethal.

Yeah, it helps them by being the AFC Champions a little longer.

Do you think he has matured past high school? I am not sure about the players in the nfl being very mature.

Hell no. I heard he was going to run over to Roy Williams house to ask him to pull up his pants for him.

Steelers don't have any glaring holes they need to fill by trading for a veteran. So, they don't suffer from not being able to trade players. They have the luxury of being able to draft players and have time to develop them, too. They don't need to roll the dice on that "instant impact" player whose impact might be great, or simply the sound of him falling on his face.

Article refers to Browns and Bengals. How are things in Baltimore?
