Davis hints at Warriors' future

Baron Davis gave the strongest indication yet Tuesday that he will not exercise an option to become a free agent after the season, a welcome development for the Golden State Warriors even as he expressed great disappointment at not getting an extension after leading the electric playoff run last spring. "I don't think so," Davis told The Bee when asked if he plans to opt out of his contract in the summer of 2008. "I don't think that's going to be an issue. I've got two years. Opting out, I'll figure it out when the season's over, but I doubt it."

Thats right Baron. Stay as long as you're comfortable, then bounce on them quick fast and in a hurry when you're ready. They didn't want to give you that extension, so now there's no loyalty to that franchise... Now it's YOUR best interest your looking out for, not the club...

He likes it there. He's become a leader on and off the court.

I doubt if Baron Davis exercises his option to opt out, look how much fun hes faving in Oakland. While the "We Believe" t-shirts are long gone, and I highly doubt the Warriors would have a chance against big team out West such as Rockets or Spurs or Jazz they could still beat the Mavericks and could take the Suns to 7 games, since Suns and Warriors play the same kind of defense

Finally a star athlete satisfied with his good fortune. It's refreshing.

November 15, 2007  01:43 PM ET

He should pretend to have strong Communist sympathies, so we could call him the "red Baron."

November 15, 2007  01:44 PM ET

Probably should have worked Redd from Milwaukee into that joke.. my bad.

November 15, 2007  03:34 PM ET

The Red Baron wasn't a Communist, he was the opposite, a German right wing aerial panzerfaust chucker.

BD opting out would cost him $35 million for the two years he has remaining on his contract. For another team to make that up, they'd have to give him a max contract, and he's too much of an injury risk for that. He has missed a tremendous amount of games after his first three years with Charlotte.

I think he just came to his senses.

Gaint Fan,

Although you have slammed the Dodgers in our posting, I have to agree with you here. If BD stays healthy he is a hand full. For some reason I just don't take the Warriors and all the 3s serious. They still will be Dallas in a series because Dallas doesn't have a low post threat.

November 15, 2007  09:02 PM ET

He'll opt out and end up with the Lakers...or at least I hope so!!!!!!!!!!! He's an LA guy.

November 15, 2007  10:31 PM ET

I think it's probably a mix of what Kenosha and Giant Fan said. He's happy being the man with Golden State, and he's not going to get that same money from anyone else unless he proves he can stay healthy. Last year was OK (if memory serves) - but it takes more than one OK season to erase years of injuries.

November 16, 2007  02:11 AM ET

If he stays, great for the Warriors, but they still can not compette with the Big 3 in Texas or the one in Phoenix. Yes, they got lucky against the Mavs, but that will not happen again.

And can someone explain the draft day trade to get B Wright at that cost?

November 16, 2007  10:52 AM ET

Davis is one of my favorites. I'd like to see him in a position to get a ring. But I'm also glad to see him staying away from the chance to just take the money and run. He's a hero in Fan Francisco.

November 16, 2007  11:25 AM ET

Baron is soo underrated, but he has become a star with GS Warriors. Dont opt out, GSW Hoops = a healthy Baron!

November 17, 2007  10:20 AM ET

Iron... You do not win a series 4-2 and get lucky. It easily could have been 4-1 if GS had been able to close Game 5 out

SoFlaBoy, I am a loyal Giants fan and hate dem Bums from LA. and love it when they suck as much as the Giants do. But I love the Marlins, esp. during fire sale times. I thank them for Robb Nen and Livan Hernandez; now, can we have Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis? Please??? Pretty Please???

If BD stays healthy, he'll be taken care of. He and Jack are the heart and soul of the franchise. God knows how long Warrior fans have suffered. But, it's still a big IF. And if they don't re-sign him, they'll have plenty of cash to sign someone else, but I do love the guy and hope it all works out.

Thank you, Hornets, for Baron and thank you, Larry Legend, for Jack and Harrington and for taking the two stiffs Murphy and Dunleavy.
