Tressel out ... Meyer in at Ohio State?

08:28 AM ET 03.23 | This would qualify as a blockbuster move. Now that Tennessee has fired Bruce Pearl, isn't it only a matter of time before Jim Tressel resigns at Ohio State and former Florida Gators coach Urban Meyer takes over? I am convinced of it. Obviously Meyer wants to decompress, take some time off from coaching and spend some quality time with his family. And he will get a chance to do just that this season while the vultures circle Tressel at Ohio State. With Tennessee firing basketball coach Bruce Pearl on Monday for similar transgressions to Tressel's, it's inevitable that Ohio State will eventually pull the plug on Tressel, too. Let's face it, Tressel has lost all credibility and could face massive sanctions once the NCAA is done investigating his role in covering up violations by his players. If the NCAA hammer falls and the Buckeyes struggle this year (and you know they will with quarterback Terrelle Pryor and Tressel suspended for the first five games), the pressure will mount and Tressel will ultimately resign.

Oh please. The journalists are on a roll today.

Bruce Pearls' overall record does not even compare to what Tressel has done in the past 10 years at OSU.You are talking about a top5 program and BCS contender every year, not a conference championship every now and then.

I'm looking forward to the day when we can talk about Jim Tressel without hearing about Bruce Pearl.

This is ridiculous. Does anyone believe this crap?

Somebody pulled out the crack pipe early today or maybe never put it down from last night.

It's no accident that The Orlando Sentinel and Disney World are located in the same town.

You think Meyer suffered from pressure at Florida? Coaching at Ohio State especially following what Tressel has done would be enough to give Meyer the heart attack he didn't have at Florida a reality in Columbus.

I think FL is a more stressful job. OSU has been steam rolling the competition for years. Meanwhile, FL is in a conference that has won 5 championships in a row by 4 different teams. Much more pressure IMO.

No.

What struggle in the first 5 games? Colorado, Miami and Michigan State are the only decent teams of the first 5 games, and MSU is the only conference opponent. OSU could very easily be 5-0...or maybe 3-2, with at most only one conference loss.

If you have heart problems you ain't coaching anywhere. Not to mention, is the Ohio State job really better than the Florida job? Florida is one of the best hotbeds for recruits anywhere in the country. Not to mention the weather. I would take the Florida job over Ohio State any day.

It will be very interesting to see what penalties Ohio Arrogance University will incur by the NCAA. The NCAA doesn't play around, in case anyone has been watching. It pounces once its ducks are in a row. The Vest is on borrowed time.

March 23, 2011  09:19 AM ET

After that laughable punishment handed out by OSU I don't see any firings in the near future.

March 23, 2011  09:20 AM ET

...but it does give us something to chew on during the long off season!

March 23, 2011  09:21 AM ET

The sweater vest isn't going to quit The Ohio State University. That's his dream job, why would he leave? NCAA sanctions are a joke, they let the players play in the bowl game and suspend them for 5 games next year. It's all about the benjamins with the NCAA.

Its all Judas fault. Coach Tressel every time i look at you i dont understand, why you let the things you did get so out of hand, you'd a managed better if ya had it planed, OHHH OHHH OHHH OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHH!!
