Devils may bring Parise back this season

08:37 AM ET 03.23 | Despite the Devils recent slide that has all but ended a Cinderella story, Zach Parise may be returning to give the team a lift. It's three weeks today since Parise was given three to four weeks before resuming practice, and the informed expectation is that he will seek medical clearance this week to rejoin the Devils. If so, a return to the lineup might be possible late next week. But there appears little need to risk or rush now, not after the Devils lost to the Bruins 4-1 Tuesday night to fall nine points out of a playoff berth with nine games left. What initially was forecast by the Devils to be a three-month recovery from right knee cartilage repair likely will reach five months before Parise plays for the first time since Oct. 30, when John MacLean was coaching the 12th game of his 33, and the Devils fell to 3-8-1.

The Devils had a heckova run, but that fat lady is singing and its all just about over.

wait just a minute here...didn't T&R have a big scoop theother day that The Devils were TRADING this guy for a defenceman?

It would be bad decision making, in my opinion. The season is over for them, no matter how great of a run its been since Lemaire's return. Why bring Parise back for 5 games? Maybe just to see if he's still worth the money he's likely to sign for, but there's no reason to think he won't come back as good as he was when he left. Give him an extended off-season, let his knee get to 100%, sign him forever so he and Kovie are running mates for the next decade and let him come back next year as strong as ever.

Stick a fork in them.

Would have been a dangerous 8 seed.

If he is completely healthy, let him play a few games and practice. They have been overly cautious with him and at some point he is going to have to play actual games. Might be good for his confidence. Though if they want to be safe that's fine, let him practice and not play. The only thing I care about is him signing a big fat long term deal.

Yes, they did. And, in a couple of days from now we will get a "story" that he is contemplating retiring. Then, a couple days after that, a post will come along that he has decided not to retire. After that, we will hear that he wants to test free agency. Then........

There is no consistency in the NHL right down to the fan blogs.

Agree. What would be the point of exposing Parise to further injury at this point? Great run it was but .... they be done!

Might be good to see how he holds up over a few games before calling for the Brinks truck.

Phantom, you ought to contact T&R and offer to take over these threads. Within a couple of seconds you have proven your ability to equal the work of dozens of interns working feverishly all night. You could save them tons of money, improve the content of the threads, have them become intellectually honest AND, I'd be willing to bet you could get a picture that matched the subject (and one that wasn't repeated 236 times a month). Yeah..........by God I think that's it!

After last night sadly it's over.

So if they plan on keeping him next year don't waste the time this year.

March 23, 2011  11:29 AM ET

If we only got ride of Jonny Mac and Langs 2 weeks sooner.

The only **** in the armor of this plan is the title of "intern", which implies no pay or benefits. Unfortunately, my wife and I have become accustomed to a certain style of living (roof, occasional meals, clothes from no later than the last century) so I will have to pass. I would consider a lucrative consultant deal, however ;)

The only reason I could think to play Parise this year would be if the Devils are serious about trading him. But, that would be reaching.
