08:40 AM ET 03.23 | The Blue Jackets' GM says it's up to Nikita Filatov to show when he's ready to play in the NHL, but it won't be this season. Filatov, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2008 draft, struggled mightily with the Jackets early in the season -- zero goals in 23 games -- and has fared only slightly better with Springfield. Between injuries, Filatov has six goals and nine assists in 27 games with the Falcons. Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson said Filatov would be invited to training camp next fall and that the organization has not given up him.

There's his problem. He was trying to get ready for the NFL instead of the NHL. Maybe he should just settle on one sport and stick with it.

No. 6 overall pick from 2008 and he's still not ready? Of course they'll invite him to camp in the fall. No one wants to admit that they screwed up that bad.

I'm so glad Garth passed over him for Bailey.

This is the kind of guy that makes small players have bad reps. But its a silly GM who banks on a small player who is also known for soft play. Guys like Marty St. Louis are still scrappy when they play, even if they are "too small for the league". Filatov has no scrap. He's more of a Skills Competition guy than a true in-game player. OR maybe a KHL kind of guy with more room to skate and much less physicality. You can pick small guys in drafts - just make sure they show the heart that's needed to actually make the Show. Soft skills in a small guy is a recipe for draft failure, if you ask me.

Sad part is, he said all the right things coming over. Wanted to play in North America. Wanted to be an NHLer, no matter what. Well spoken since his mom is an English teacher. I even picked him in my pool as my rookie that year. Whoops. If he had played more than 6 games and scored a measly 25 points I win that year. Meh.

Was thinking the same thing. What a disgrace. And now he's a "hockey insider" on sportsnet. And Milbury is on NBC. Two of the worst GMs ever parlay their ineptitude into tv gigs. We don't even know how bad Maclean could have been, had he ever had an asset to trade he may well have topped Milbury's mark for failure.

Yes, but Milbury does have this over anyone. Who else ever beat a fan with his own shoe?

Go to the 2 minute mark. Enjoy!

In other words .... Nikita can start Filatoving his way over to the KHL.

There's a team in Columbus?

This is why Bettman has (temporarily) abandoned his plan to put a franchise in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Some Saudis saw this video and were appalled since using a shoe as a weapon, or even waving it at someone, is a vile and obscene insult in an Arab country. You'll no doubt remember the "journalist" throwing a shoe at Bush in Iraq. Just like a journalist, no class and a crummy arm to boot.

I'll forgive him for having no class but not for the crummy arm. :-)

I guess Espo missed all the fun. He bolted down the runway pretty quick he was so upset at missing the breakaway chance.
