08:11 AM ET 03.24 | While there are no guarantees that the AL East will belong to the Yankees or Red Sox, it's a virtual lock that ripping deities of both teams will make headlines. Orioles manager Buck Showalter is certainly opinionated, though often cautious in interviews. But he let loose with a couple zingers in an interview that appears in the April issue of Men's Journal magazine. On Theo Epstein: "I'd like to see how smart Theo Epstein is with the Tampa Bay payroll. You got Carl Crawford 'cause you paid more than anyone else, and that's what makes you smarter? That's why I like whipping their butt." ... On Jeter: "The first time we went to Yankee Stadium, I screamed at Derek Jeter from the dugout. Our guys are thinking, 'Wow, he's screaming at Derek Jeter.' Well, he's always jumping back from balls just off the plate. I know how many calls that team gets -- and yes, he [ticks] me off."

Interns, after reading the story, I don't get the "rips Jeter" headline. Try again rookies.

lets see how much the red sox run up the score when they play the orioles this year...s/b fun wo watch.

Funny ... he doesn't LOOK like Rex Ryan. I weep for my poor birds.

It would have been funny if Showater stated:

"Let's see how smart Epstein would be with the pathetic owner I have and the bunch of rag-tag misfits and castoffs that are here."

March 24, 2011  09:07 AM ET

Waaaa. Cry me a river!! I don't think that people feel Theo is a good GM just because of the Crawford signing. Calling out other teams was ok when you were a hack announcer, but now that you are a manager, try worrying about your own team. Even though Jeter and the Sox won't say it, guys remember when you call them out. Jerk!!!!!

You know Buck is smart enough to cause some excitement for his club while he can. Maybe it will put a few fannies into Camden Yard that are not Yankee or Red Sox fans.

I think Patrick Roy can speak for Theo and Jeter when she says "I can't hear him because of all these championship rings plugging my ears."

Doesnt Buck have as many rings as Theo? or 1 more?

March 24, 2011  09:19 AM ET

You cannot blame people for what they do. Theo could be great with a small payroll. Jeter is a star and stars get calls. Yes it maybe wrong but watch basketball, football or hockey and tell me that does not happen in other sports.

Instant fan of Showalter!

Wouldn't it be:

"Je ne peux pas l'entendre a cause de toutes ces bagues de championnat de brancher mes oreilles."

I agree with Showalter...to a minimal extent. Some of the writers will credit GMs like Theo for nabbing the best free agents when in reality, it's all about the money for the FAs.

As for the Orioles, perhaps only a 90 loss season?

hell yeah! showalter for president! his attitude is the right one, same as mine, and should be for all who love the great game.

If I had to choose between Houston or Baltimore, I'd pick neither.

But that's just me.

I'm sure Showater is really happy that someone with the name "stupidmoron" is in agreement.

Talk about poking the sleeping dogs. How about you get your team to finish out of last place and then you start talking. Camden Yards is Fewnay and Yankee Stadium south. Good luck Buck-O!
