08:00 AM ET 03.25 | The lockout has much of the NFL world at a standstill, but there is forward progress on efforts to return the league to Los Angeles. AEG, proposing to build an NFL stadium/event center in downtown L.A., has taken another step in that direction by selecting Gensler to design the estimated $1 billion venue, The Times has learned. L.A.-based Gensler was one of three finalists, with the other two being the firms HNTB and HKS. It's something of a coup that AEG chose Gensler, which has never designed an NFL stadium, considering HNTB is responsible for Invesco Field in Denver and HKS drew up the plans for Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Among dozens of other projects around the world, Gensler designed the 54-story hotel and residence tower that's part of L.A. Live.

So, the company designed a hotel? How appropriate. The next NFL team won't be in LA long enough to need a house of their own, anyway.

For that matter, the Rams moved to LA from Cleveland...NFL teams seem to be like girls from small towns - move to LA expecting to become rich and famous

What does this mean for the other group trying to get a stadium built out there? The problem isn't a stadium thing, because there is enough money to do that no matter what. The problem is getting the NFL to come out and state that they will expand or some other team agreeing to move. Until either of those things happen, who cares about a potential stadium.
