08:27 AM ET 03.25 | Mike Milbury is old guard NHL, a former Bruins defenseman who amassed more than 1,500 PIMs and to this day is star of a hockey show in Boston called The Instigators, but even he's changing his tune. Milbury was once a staunch defender of laissez-faire hockey. Now, he says he's changed his tune about the dangers of hockey. Milbury says the accumulation of evidence in the National Hockey League and in his own life became too great to ignore. "You can't live in a vacuum," the former NHL player and executive says. "We have seen dramatic changes, and they've caused a ripple effect. I think the latest [projected] number is 100 concussions in the NHL this season. I've been all for letting it go, but when you see that, you have to sit back and rethink it."

Ha, with the way they describe Milbury, you'd think he was a respectable hockey man, haha.

His bosses probably told him what stance he had. He's just a wind up toy for tv hockey execs.

Please, Milbury is a respectable hockey man. Just because you don't agree with him or he said something nasty about your favorite team or player doesn't make it "not so".

I used to yell at him through my TV all the time when he was playing, but I like how he speaks his mind. This filtered PC crap that the rest of the talking heads toss our way is garbage.

Having to listen to idiots like Brian Engbloom & Pierre McGuire makes my hair hurt.

BTW, Milbury had some very complimentary things to say about the Habs after last night's game.

NOT!

7 - 0!

I've got to agree with gC on this one. Milbury is "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing". Much like Joe Theisman on NFL telecasts.

Never said anything nasty about my team - very few do.

He rarely says anything of substance, is my issue. He doesn't have real opinions, he just says what he thinks will get him the most on-air time. He is clearly trying to be the Don Cherry of a new generation except Cherry rarely said things just to say them: right or wrong, Cherry believes in what he says.

He and Pierre Mcguire have similar qualifications, actually. Though Milbury played in the league. But fluking into jobs and bumbling through them until merciful firings does not make one respectable. Nor does selling your opinion for screen time.

How many times a year do you get to listen to Milbury? I watch a lot of Bruins games and listen to him a lot and your claim that he says nothing of substance is without merit. Asserting that unlike Don Cherry, Mike doesn't really believe what he says deserves no response.

Too bad the game wasn't 1 second longer, the B's would have hung a snowman up on the scoreboard.

But Mil(l)bury always was a milk-toast - and later in life, a weather-vane.

March 25, 2011  09:24 AM ET

Whether-vain.

March 25, 2011  09:24 AM ET

...or not.

There is no shame in Milbury's coaching record, his GM abilities on the other hand can be dissected.

Milbury is not there to provide insightful commentary, he's there to create chaos- yelling at the other commentators, saying off the wall garbage etc. He should have a sticker on his head that says "for entertainment purposes only".

One L in Milbury and how do you come up with him being Milquetoast. He's a lot of things, some not so flattering, but that ain't one of them.

Are you a big fan of Jeremy Roenick?

March 25, 2011  09:38 AM ET

Hey Rex...it sounds like you have a crush.

His GM ability can be dissected quickly- he has none-and then cremated

I don't get why really bad GM's get TV gigs. They are supposed to be the experts giving us analysis. I don't want a guy with his track record telling me anything about the game...unless underneath his head is a caption that reads - the opposite of what I am is saying is probably true.

Yet...you responded. Weird.

Your man-crush on Milbury notwithstanding, I see the man often. He makes sure of it, whether I like it or not. Just like Pierre.

Though he certainly can't be called a soft guy or milquetoast or whatever. THAT I have to agree with. Sell-out? Yes. Pooosy? No.

Ha, but the good ones tend to keep their jobs and not be available for tv gigs, unfortunately. Agreed wholeheartedly though.
