Schwartz had little interest in sitting Best

08:02 AM ET 03.28 | Jahvid Best wasn't at his best for much of 2010, but Jim Schwartz says the Lions were still better off riding a compromised young star. While there was some thought to giving Best time off midway through the season to heal, Schwartz said the Lions were right to keep him on the field. "The way those work, you shut him down for three or four weeks and then all of a sudden, he comes back and tweaks it again and then you say, 'Geez, we could have had a couple carries out of him or a couple plays for those other games,'" Schwartz said. "Jahvid could still do his job. He wasn't as good as he can be, but could he still contribute to the team? Yeah, and I think that's sort of what we tried to balance. Could we have gotten him back a little bit faster? Maybe. Would it have lasted just as long? Maybe."

If he's their Best option at RB, why sit him?

They probably have a pic of Best, but that one of Stafford won out for comedic value.

Awesome 2 games, but flamed out just like most rookie RBs. He will need to do plenty of strength and conditioning this offseason and get ready to shine.

He is a young RB so give him some time. The Lions are rebuilding and will only get better which could be said for Stafford and Best

Yup... get that O-Line upgraded and both Stafford and Best will befefit.

It is the only known photo of Stafford in an upright position in a Lions uniform.

Good observation.

Can they get much worse?

Well, they were much, MUCH worse a couple of years ago, the 0-16 year. They showed some promise in 2010, but every time it looked like they were about to get it together, a quarterback (either Stafford or Hill) would go all horizontal on them and they'd go back to being a beaten team.

They could easily finish ahead of Minnesota if we have a season this year. If they're a pleasant surprise, and Chicago is an unpleasant disappointment, they could finish second.

Best entered the draft a year early. As a Cal fan I thought he should have stayed in college an extra year. Maybe Detroit needs to rebuild an offensive line. One that can protect Stafford and open a hole in the line for running backs. I wonder if Shaun Hill maybe stole Staffords job away.

Not a chance that Stafford loses his job to Shaun Hill. He may continue to lose his job for weeks at a time thanks to some opposing defensive linemen, but anytime he is vertical he is the starter. The franchise has too much invested in him to switch.
