Pats thinking bigger than Mark Ingram?

08:04 AM ET 03.30 | The Patriots may be thinking big when it comes to a running back. Folks have been tying Alabama's Mark Ingram to the Patriots for months. Measuring 5-foot-9, 215 pounds at the combine, Ingram is a strong runner between the tackles, which is also where BenJarvus Green-Ellis excels. ... According to various reports, the Patriots have also had private workouts with UConn's Jordan Todman (a Massachusetts native), Virginia Tech's Ryan Williams and Kentucky's Derrick Locke. Williams is the biggest of those three players at 5-9 1/2, 211 pounds, and is considered a solid runner between the tackles. If/when there's a new CBA and teams are allowed to sign free agents, keep Baltimore's Willis McGahee (slated to be released by the Ravens) in mind. McGahee is 6-0, 235, and though he's 29, he's averaged just over 100 carries per season the last two years due to Ray Rice's emergence.

Little Bill should remember Little Joe from his first Super Bowl ring with the Gints... Ingram would fit right in up there.

Ingram doesn't really fit in with a team that isn't known for running the ball, I don't think the Pats will draft him.

If they had a reliable runner they would run it. Green-Ellis is a start but they need another.

The pats are not going to go anywhere once the season begins.

"If/when there's a new CBA" could be a long time. Ingram might be old enough to join the Redskin backfield by the time they settle this mess.

Ouch but sadly true. The Pats like having many people at RB, kills fantasy but helps keep the team healthy.

last year the backfield was dropping like candlepins. thank god for Danny Woodhead!

Yup. The Pats go through running backs pretty fast. The so-called number one running back seldom lasts the season without at least a handful of games on the sidelines in civvies. Green-Ellis has been on the team for several years now, and only came into his own in 2010. If you have the luxury of being able to draft a RB and bring him along like a young QB behind a veteran, do it.

On the other hand, an impact pass-rusher would be higher on my list of gaps the Pats need to fill.

Scary to think of him in the backfield with Brady.

They don't run it, because they haven't had a legit running back that stays healthy.

Amen.

It's not like the Pats to spend a high draft choice on a running back, even Ingram. They can get more value from drafting one of the alternatives. All the reports I've seen have Ingram going to the Dolphins, anyway.

i dont beleive they should use either 1st round pick on a running back.you can get a running back later in the draft and unless they feel he going to be a pro-bowl back then they got other holes to fill or they can trade out of the pick to pick up future draft picks for next year or beyond. i wouldnt be suprised to see them trade both of they first round picks seeing as the got two picks in the next 3 rounds afterwards.. with all the picks they got though i would like to see them actually try and move up in the top ten for once .

And, their offensive line is built to protect Brady, not to open holes for runners.

I will hate to see the Patriots 2 years from now.... Nothing but talent all across.

I would say o-line is top priority then a pass rusher.
