08:01 AM ET 03.31 | Ravens fans can hope the in-waiting tag works better in the Baltimore front office than it did on the sidelines at Texas. Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti believes he has done everything he can to secure Eric DeCosta as the Ravens' "general manager-in-waiting." DeCosta, 39, has been the Ravens' director of player personnel since 2009 after serving six seasons as the scouting director. He has long been loyal to the organization, even removing himself from the Seattle Seahawks' general manager search last year. "We worked out a nice new contract with Eric that gives him a lot of financial incentive to stay," Bisciotti told The Sun. ... Bisciotti said last year that he has never been given any indication that general manager Ozzie Newsome is going to leave "anytime soon." "We want Oz to be here as long as Ozzie wants to be here," Bisciotti said last year.

They really need to get the CBA done. Until it is, we will have news gems like this. Yawn.

Lots of people are already forgetting his name.

So now we're talking about salary negotiations for second-stringers in management? It's no wonder the thread-du-jour yesterday didn't even make 700 posts.

Look, guys, your Spam kickbacks depend on hit counts, right? You have to do better than this.

Whose name?

Scoff and be bored all you want, but that is how a good franchise stays competitive. More than a few teams could take a lesson from them (hint: Cowboys and Redskins).

Bad example using teams with owners without any clue. Also add the Bengals, Bills and Raiders to that group.

The Ravens have a good young team and a plan. They should be set to contend for a while if they can get some fresh blood into that defense.

If you need to groom a new General Manager before your present General Manager is ready to retire.....

You could be a Redskin.

If you dress like a fat woman, wear a pig nose on your face and remember the glory years of guys like Coy Bacon....

You could be a Redskin.

Smart move on the Ratbirds part.

March 31, 2011  09:30 AM ET

A lot of teams would be glad to acquire Ozzie Newsome's services.

He is the Ravens.

trust me, DeCosta is one of the most sought-after F.O. guys in the NFL. MANY teams wanted him as a GM in the near future.
