Cardinals wish they could do something with WRs

08:07 AM ET 04.01 | The Cardinals' receiving corps may look very different in the near future. With star player Larry Fitzgerald's contract expiring at the end of the 2011 season and potential free agents Steve Breaston and Early Doucet each having injury issues after missing a combined nine games in 2010, could the need for help at wide receiver be bigger than the Cardinals might be suggesting? "If there weren't so many other holes, it (the WR situation) would probably be a much bigger deal," one team insider said. We're hearing it's far from a given that Fitzgerald, Breaston and Doucet, in that order, will enter next season as the Cardinals' top three receivers, with the problems the latter two have had staying healthy quite possibly opening the door for reinforcements.

If they don't a QB it won't matter who plays WR. There won't be any catchable passes to worry about.

Here's another team that would be willing to give up more than Carson Palmer is worth to get him. Palmer is better now than Kolb will ever be, and he's got more tread left on the tires than McNabb.

Trade Larry to New England is one thing you can do

First things first. You got to have a QB. It won't be Palmer though, why would he jump from loser A to loser B, ie: the Bidwell train wreck.

Won't happen. That contract running out at the end of the season is a big issue. This is going to be a short year, or a non-season, anyway. You don't want to have to franchise the guy, and you don't want a contract problem with a high-visibility player, either. Given that the Pats have a big payroll as is, I just don't see it working out.

Too bad, though. Other than that, he'd be a great addition and I think he'd like it here.

Loser B could become winner B, like they were with Kurt Warner. The team hasn't really changed much, other than a string of buffoons at quarterback after Warner retired.

Loser A, on the other hand, will still be Loser A regardless.

And remember, Palmer is still under contract. He's not a free agent. He can ask to be traded, and hold the retirement gun to their heads, but he can't go make his own deals.

I know it won't happen but maybe he'll roll out of Arizona and sign with NEP anyways

I could see him wanting to do that after the 2011 season, when he's a free agent. But the Cards would probably franchise him for 2012, and 2013 is too far away to think about.

Trade Larry to the pats for pats 1st round pick(oakland) then use your 2nd round pick for Palmer use your first for Julio then your pats pick for something you need or trade down in the first to get 1st and a 2nd ! maybe your can trade with the STEELERS because you raid their cookie jar everytime you need SOMETHING !

By the way the Pats need THAT BIG WR to spread the field or their going to be in trouble and beiber(Brady) is no mobile qb

Worrying about replacing wide receivers when there is no Quarterback to throw to them is like a bald man buying a comb

There is the donut, and there is the hole in the donut. When I look at the Cardinals all I see is the hole.
