Gabbert's game lacking a certain something

08:03 AM ET 04.01 | Scrutiny seems to be revealing, at least in the eyes of some, question marks about Blaine Gabbert. [Gabbert] has not faced as much public scrutiny [as Cam Newton], but some of the teams who are evaluating quarterbacks are picking apart his draft profile as well. We've all heard about Gabbert's issues with accuracy on deep throws and that his adjustment to playing under center could take some time. I've recently spoken to scouts and coaches who simply haven't been blown away by Gabbert. In their film evaluation of Gabbert, I was told there is just nothing special that jumps out. He's good. Nobody is saying he can't play. It's just that typically, a top quarterback takes over a game or two, leads some signature drives and, at times, looks like the best player on the field, one person said. You just don't see that with Gabbert, he added.

Every QB's game is lacking something, this is not news.

Once upon a time a 6th round pick named Brady was ridiculed for his deep passes. Apparently...so what?

April 1, 2011  08:17 AM ET

So they're saying he's good but not franchise QB material. That would put him in the top half of NFL starters right now.

So, it sounds like he's another one of those "game manager" quarterbacks. OK, so you build a team the old fashioned way, around defense and the run.

Remember the Dolpins and their "perfect season." Defense, Csonka and Kiick, and a game-manager quarterback named Bob Griese.

Heart...... Heart is what it's lacking.

He's going to be another Colt Brennan.

This article is pretty pathetic. Every QB has there flaws and someone here pointed out that Brady was a 6th round QB and he won what...4 superbowls?

He could get a heart transplant from Pennington, then. There's a guy with limited physical ability, but enough heart and brains to make up for it.

Chad the Elder blew out his ACL playing basketball earlier this week. No way he's coming back.

Yeah but if a QB is going to go number 1 overall, he better damn well impress, and Gabbert doesn't. Nothing this guy does really stands out as excellent. Not saying he won't be a good QB, but there is just nothing about him thats makes one think he is special. In fact none of the QBs this year have that... something. A big batch of busts is what's gonna come out this year.

what QB "has" blown away scouts? exactly!

April 1, 2011  10:16 AM ET

There is nothing special about any of the top QBs in the draft. This article could have been written about any one of them .
