Glavine to counter Braves offer

Tom Glavine is 100 percent sure he wants to pitch next season, but it's appearing more and more as if his employer will be the Braves. Yesterday the Braves extended Glavine a contract offer, and the lefty's agent Gregg Clifton last night was preparing a counter proposal. Clifton has not spoken recently to the Mets, with whom Glavine would likely re-sign if a deal can't be struck with the Braves. Clifton indicated Glavine would take less money to pitch for Atlanta, where he resides with his family.

Bye Tom! Good Riddance! You never wanted to be here anyway!

Take the offer on the table, Tom. Its the best you will get. If you don't take you will actually be doing the Braves a favor even if the Braves don't know it. Or do they?

Some of us Braves DON'T want him back. I know of two, my little sister and myself.

there is nothing left in tommy"s tank. he throws batting practice
speed and not much else. i cant believe the braves gave him an offer.
i thought they were rebuilding.

I wouldn't want Glavine. But the Braves need pitching, so I guess what the hell.

November 17, 2007  10:45 AM ET

I want him for the Braves, but only for a year, to see if his tank really is empty.

I believe the reason for getting Glavine has several possibilities behind it. After Smoltz and Hudson you don't have much to go on. Bring in Glavine and if he has anything left at all, it will be better than where they were last year. His first half of the season will be better than the second just like last year. Also by bringing him on board you will have another great pitcher on board to work with the lefties on the staff, particularly Chuck James and Jo Jo Reyes. Get what you can from his pitching and relish all of the priceless knowledge that he can bestow upon the young pitching in the organization.

to add on to that scottbrad,
Tom has been one of the best pitchers in Braves history, he never really wanted to be a Met, he wants to come back and make things right let him have that chance.

November 17, 2007  05:49 PM ET

well let him go. his welcome is worn out he never liked being a Met no matter how much BS hes spilled...

November 17, 2007  07:13 PM ET

Hard to believe, but he was 13 and 8 last year. In a game short on pitching, he is still an above average pitcher. It really comes down to if he is willing to play for slightly above average money.

I'd be glad to see Glavine come back to Atlanta. Insert TG into the number three spot in Atlanta last year and the Braves would have been in the playoffs. The man knows HOW to pitch and he has guts. I hate he left Atlanta to start but he was dealing with Time-A Oh Hell-Warner whose goal seemed to be bankrupting the Braves organization of talent.

November 19, 2007  02:59 AM ET

.... and the sombich will probably throw a no hitter against the Mets in 08'.

I won't be glad to see him go, though he may pitch better in Atlanta than he would in NY. Now that the pressure to get the 300 will be way behind him.

So, it looks like his LAST game as a MET was really his First game as a BRAVE.

Ugghhh....

GO Mets!

For all you Braves fans who don't want Glavine back..........sorry, he's back.
