There has been no confirmation, but numerous reports are speculating that Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt will leave the university at the end of the season. Message boards and chat rooms were abuzz Friday with the rumors of Nutt's departure. One report said Nutt had offers on the table at four universities, Baylor and Southern Methodist University among them.

Can't hack it in the SEC huh? Bye then -

November 17, 2007  09:34 AM ET

This is the best thing the Hogs can do for themselves. Get rid of this joker.

November 17, 2007  09:49 AM ET

Nutt's biggest mistake of all time was hiring that HS coach hack and recruiting Mitch Mustain. That was the beginning of his end at Arkansas. Too bad.

November 17, 2007  09:50 AM ET

Oh yeah, I hope Pete Carroll has taken notes and watched closely how Mustain helped destroy a coach's career. Now the kid is USC's problem.
Go Mark Sanchez!!

November 17, 2007  11:02 AM ET

Arkansas; Nutt jobbed.

November 17, 2007  11:38 AM ET

Sounds like Nutt is just going to leave it all hanging out there...A very dicey move.

November 17, 2007  11:50 AM ET

Mitch Mustain was the #1 recruit in the nation. Now USC has 3 Quarterbacks who were all #1 in the Nation in High School. I don't think Pete Carroll would allow him to transfer if he didn't think he was good. I'm not defending Nutt, because I don't see how you can't win with all that talent. But still.

November 17, 2007  11:57 AM ET

its real simple....Nutt got one of the best coaches in the nation from Springdale HS, he got one of the best quaterbacks in the nation in Mustain, but his ego would not allow him to turn over the offense to said coach and quarterback of choice.....ego.....ego....ego....had he gone with mustain and allowed the coach he hired to run the offense.....Arkansas would be an SEC and thus national title contender.....who is the loser here.....Darren Mcfadden

Nutt has the Number one fatal flaw: Arrogance! Players transfer and coaches come and go all the time so i don't figure that into the equation. Numerous times he has admitted that he wouldn't relinquish control of the offense to the OC. Remember this is the same person who transfer to Oklahoma state because the incoming coach preferred running to passing. It's all ways about HIM!

Hey Keith, http://collegefootball.rivals.com/viewcfse.asp?sid=1144&cs_key=1319

How can this high school hack be the #7 offensive coordinator in the country, and the only one in the top 10 not at a BCS school?

November 17, 2007  12:45 PM ET

Nutt did quite a job in taking a 2006 team loaded with talent to produce a mediocre season in 2007. Very unfortunate for McFadden, probably the best player in the country.

The best thing that can happen to the Hogs is to get rid of Nutt. He let his ego get in the way with Malzahn and the players.. He promised things to players and coaches to get them to sign and then went back on his word. Arkansas had a great year last year with Mustain and Malzahn, both leave and the team falls apart. Nutt has got to be one of the most egotistical men in sports that I have ever met. Good bye, Nutt!

idiitghos: Perhaps my use of the word "hack" was poor. I wasn't criticizing the individual's football mind, or coaching talent as far as actual game-coaching goes. What I meant (and should have been more clear about) is the fact that this guy comes from high school and becomes a total negative disruption (along with Mustain and the many parents involved) to Nutt and the Arkansas program. This coach is obviously a great coach and is enjoying success. But on his way up the ladder, he played a role in destroying Houtson Nutt. I hope that clears up what I meant.

I live in Arkansas, Mahlzan and Mustain weren't disruptions, as much as Nutt's boneheaded playcalling were...I hope this is true, good riddance.

A hack HS coach? The man will def make it in D1 ball when he gets some experience. Mustain was the future QB for ark. I woulda left too if my head coach was involved with such an immature email scandal. Nutt is a politician, used car salesman, and a liar all rolled into one. If I were malzahn I woulda done the exact same thing too. Nutt went behind his back and hired that pathetic excuse of an OC Lee. I would believe Nutt if he told me the grass was green. USED CAR SALESMAN is all he is!

We are ready for a change at arkansas, nutt has not handled the mustain situation like a sec head coach in his 10th year should have . it is time to move on. bring on butch davis, but we would settle for jimmy johnson. go hogs.

Having lived in AR until last year and seeing the situation up close as a season ticket holder for the past eight years, I can say there is enough blame to go around for everyone here: Nutt, UofA, Malzahn, Mustain, and fans. Comments about Nutt's arrogance are right on, but Spurrier has the same trait and has been praised for it. UofA needs to compete on the national level in football again before having delusions of attaining a BCS championship. Track and field championships are great, but the recent scandal there also taints a good program. Malzahn needed to remember he was NOT the head coach as he was at Springdale and defer to Nutt and keep disagreements BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, not on display on the sidelines. Mustain needed to grow up and maybe he will at USC, but before he came to UofA, he essentially held the state "hostage" waiting to see where he would play. The "Springdale Five" got a lot of press for a bunch of high school players who haven't proved to be as spectacular as their "press" would lead one to believe. As for Arkansas fans, get over old SWC days. Your school is in the SEC now and to compete you need to be able to recruit better. There are some fine facilities in Fayetteville and the city itself is in a beautiful part of the country. Maybe now that Broyles is finally going to pass the torch, maybe the school...and the state...can enter the 21st century, stop reminiscing about the "old glory days" and build something for the future. However, the gaining of Nutt's cell phone records was a bush league move and a low point for Arkansas fans and the state. Good luck finding a coach willing to come there knowing what the best coach UofA has had in the past 25 years had to deal with while there.

Poor little piggies..... they just want to win! Instead of focusing on the overall program, accepting their flaws and taking steps to correct them, they ALWAYS have someone or something to "blame" - Nutt is an arrogant nut job - always has been - but Broyles is the real failure at UofA - outdated and too caught up in the past to move forward His departure is long over due - and I'll STILL have to see it to believe it -That's the real good riddance - his departure might bring the piggies outta the "good ol' boy" days and into the real SEC. Until then..... wweeEEwWWEEEEE weeee weeeeeeeeeee all the way home.......... can't say I don't enjoy the train wreck LOL

I think Malzahn has already proven to be a fine Div I coach or have you not noticed the offense the University of Tulsa has this year? I somehow doubt that all of Arky's issues is due to Nutt. I'm sure he is out though and will be coaching at Baylor or SMU next season.
