Ducks' Dixon despondent after injury
Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon failed to show up for a scheduled conference call with the media and with coach Mike Bellotti on Friday. Bellotti said Dixon was "despondent." He also was fortunate. Team doctors believe -- although they won't know for sure until they operate -- that the knee suffered no further structural damage. If other knee ligaments were also damaged, team doctor Robert Crist said, it would be "a bad deal" and never would be 100 percent again. Crist said Dixon's recovery should be six months, which is now the normal time period to come back from an ACL tear.

That's awful. Despondent is not a good word. I hope he gets the support he needs. Good luck to him and his ducks!

Get well soon Dennis. He was awesome this year and it really makes me sad to see that he won't be winning the Heisman. I am sure he will have a bright future in the pros.

...And if he *doesn't* end up with a future in the pros, he should sue the pants off the Oregon coaching staff for putting him on the field and risking his future for the sake of the season.

Even as a USC fan, I have to admit I feel for the kid and watched in shock when he injured his knee. I also think it's quite an awkward situation at the moment with Dixon and Bellotti, just a get feeling I have after reading about what has taken place since Thursday night.

It is really unfortunate for a very gifted, very promising player. May he mend well. That said, it's the end of the road for the Ducks. Dixon and Stewart WERE the team. The offense played like c rap after Dixon went out and understandably so. The offense lost its heart and soul. But the defense was pretty d amn good. Still the success of the DUCKS this year depended on two all-world players. Now they have one.

They nead to restructure the offense for Leaf now....we'll see! At least Stewarts injury is not serious and the defense is playing its best now!

I really feel bad for Dixon. He's a senior. I feel, he is the rightful winner of this year's Heisman award. Dixon has had a wonderful, awe inspiring year for Oregon football.
Hopefully, the Ducks will play for the Nat'l title this time, which was stolen them in 2002.
Well kid, I'll pray the surgury will be successful and LISTEN to the Doc. Please do not push the healing. This will only muck-up your body's natural ability to be fully ready for the NFL. God Speed.

Leaf can be grateful for one thing this weekend...OU's backup makes Leaf look positively stellar.

I was actually rooting for Oregon... As soon as that Backup replaced Dixon...
Arizona blitzed about 4 LB on every play...
I guess a starting QB is pretty important... No matter how deep a team is!

At least Dixon has one thing going for him: the potential for a baseball career and an extant minor-league contract. One of the reasons he was so good before the injury was his conditioning. His desire to play and to keep in shape will serve him well in professional baseball.
