Strange timing of Bonds indictment

Why now? A defense lawyer for Barry Bonds and two outside legal experts raised questions yesterday about the timing of the perjury indictment against Bonds, saying they did not understand why it came this week and not months or even years ago. Two former federal prosecutors, Tony West and Walt Brown, speculated that Scott Schools, the acting United States attorney in the Northern District of California, might have wanted to issue the indictment before he was replaced by someone unfamiliar with the case. Less than four hours after the indictment was announced Thursday, the White House nominated Joseph Russoniello to replace Schools, a career prosecutor who has served as interim head of the office since Kevin Ryan was fired in January. The White House spokeswoman Emily Lawrimore said the timing of the announcement was "completely coincidental."

This could make it easier to decide if he wants to attend an induction to the HOF. He could still be in the big house then.

The should still vote him in the HOF, but have the ceremony in San Quinton's courtyard. That'd be a great magazine cover.

I watched this tool walk through SFO a few years ago.

He was recognized, with parents help I'm sure, and immediately set upon by four or five kids of various ages - the oldest being 9 or 10 - asking for autographs and wanting to talk to a real SF Giant.

His response to these children in a clear voice? "Get the **** outta my way."

What a classy baseball "hero."

Just to be fair and not rile the Barry Bonds apologists,
I saw Andre Dawson do essentially the same thing in San Diego one time.

Both are sinkers.

As I see it, there a more than a few problems being in the joint.

All this talk about the GOV waiting too long to indict Bonds is ridiculous. The US Attorneys office was short staffed due to the Bush/Gonzales firings. They wanted an airtight case.

Since this wasn't about steroids in baseball, the HR chase would have no bearing on the timeline to file charges or not. It was about perjury and obstruction of justice. The GOV had no reason to rush into anything, especially with being short staffed. They absolutely MUST win this case, not because it's Bonds, but because it sends a message, "don't farging lie under oath you icehole. We'll nail you for it."

As for Bonds personality, he became crankier as his tenure with the Giants went on. Whether it had to do with the hormones raging through his body (male and female, remember he took Chlomid) or not, the man was just awful to a great many children that idolized him.

I'll relay a short spring training story- Bonds was at Scottsdale working out alone on a team travel day. Dad with kid were waiting all morning in the parking lot for an autograph on a ball. One ball. A dirty ball. They'd been there for 3 days hoping to catch Bonds, but never could. The kid idolized Barry, his dad said his room was wallpapered with Bonds stuff. Bonds spent most of the morning working out, and came out in the afternoon. He comes out of the gate, and dad gently nudges the kid forward. There is no one around except some of us ticket office people, the dad, the kid, and Barry.

Bonds walks by him, and the kid says in a shy voice "excuse me Mr. Barry, please sign my ball?"

Bonds says, "Not now, I'm busy. Maybe later." He then walks to his car, puts some stuff in the trunk, opens the driver side door, and then sits in the car for a half an hour on his cell phone.

Dad- "That's ok son, Barry is a busy man. We'll try him later."
Son with absolute hope that only a kid could have and no hint of sarcasm- "Yeah, he's busy. We'll try tomorrow right?"

Ticket office people- "Such a jerk"

Hey, speaking of autograph hounds, I saw Will Clark do the same thing as Bonds and blow off a bunch of kids.
