I actually thought he was retired after the Lesnar fight? Love the guy but really thought he was done.

The fact that no-one realized he wasn't retired is probably a good sign that he should retire. I mean, when even your opponent says "Oh, I didn't realize Couture was still fighting/able to walk/alive" then it's time to leave your shoes on the mat.

I think it's very interesting that his last fight is such a high level opponent. He's fighting the former light heavy weight Champ. This could cement his career or leave us with a lasting visual of him KO'd on the mat Chuck style. I like it though it's bold to go out against one of the best in the division.

Randy is a class act, a proverbial "Good guy" in a sea of violence and chaos. He was a gracious winner and an even more grasious loser. He had a dry, straight forward personality in a business that thrives on colorful characters who are flamboyant and could get a crowd going either for them or against them by getting them riled up.

He didn't have to become a WWE character to get the crowd going, his actions, dedication, willingness to help other fighters, being a good coach that took all his fighters as seriously as they took themselves. His record in the octogon speaks for itself. Many fighters have tried and failed to stay competitive into their 40's and most failed miserably, and at 47 he still could get a victory over 1/2 of the fighters in the UFC.

Shamrock had a tough time realizing he wasn't the fighter he was 10 years ago and fought beyond his prime too many times. The sport passed him up, and he tried to prove that he was "the world's most dangerous man" a few too many times and did nothing more than hurt his legacy ala Brett Favre.

I believe Randy has realized that it's his time to pass the torch.

He never had to intimidate an opponent with his words, his record, skill, experience and longivity did that for him. There is not a MMA fighter today that wouldn't listen if Randy offered them advice. EVERY fighter gives him their respect

I believe that his legacy will only grow as he transitions from fighter to coach and his desire to help up and coming fighters. He will go out as the same class act that walked into the ocotogon in 1997.

How many retirments will this be for Favre...errrr Randy?
