Who wants to stay in Florida?

08:25 AM ET 04.04 | In the midst of a scuffling finish, it's hard to find silver linings with the Panthers. When this season finally comes to an official close Saturday against the Capitals, many changes are in store. For some players on the roster, what they do through the final week of the season could determine whether or not they are invited back. "You're looking for energy out of those guys," coach Pete DeBoer said. "You have to notice them when they hop over the boards," DeBoer said. "If I was a player, I would be doing everything I could over these last games to not just blend in." As much as some members of the Panthers deny it, the team is in full tryout mode as players hope to impress and get a contract offer for next year. Some are doing a much better job of that than others. Ryan Carter, Jack Skille and Clay Wilson all have shown the Panthers they are worth future considerations.

any reason fro the pic of McCabe, who is no longer in Florida?

fro = for

April 4, 2011  08:36 AM ET

it is a good question, who does want to stay in Fla? other than Stephen Weiss

April 4, 2011  09:10 AM ET

So what are they going to do? Fire the whole team?

April 4, 2011  09:20 AM ET

Who wants to stay in Florida?

David Caruso?

Problem is, this team has done this for a decade. Let the team full of players slag their way through the season, then work their aces off in the last month or so to earn back their roster spots for the next year. Tough to turn around a franchise when you keep all the same pieces and policies.

That's what a few concussions does to players.
Does he even know he's in Florida?

Only if you want to stay. Oy vey.

April 4, 2011  10:31 AM ET

They could fire the coach...that should certainly change their fortunes around...No really. ;0

The fact that i read those players names and say " Who?" says a lot about that teams roster and future prospects.

Everybody over eighty? Eva LaRue

What a nightmare. If Dale Tallon isn't the right guy to fix this, and he's gonna get at least three more years to do so, then this franchise will have a long term record of futility that will be unmatched in pro sports.

There's always the Clippers. And the Detroit Lions. But I catch your drift.

This team needs to reshape, rebuild, reform, and re-brand. Tallon is a good start, I still feel that way, but the Panthers need a facelift, bad. And all the other surgeries MJ used to get while they're at it, haha.

Honestly though, the Thrashers and Panthers should both look at changing things up. Not just personnel. Team colours and names. Nobody's ever going to think "Winner" when they see "Thrasher". And the Panthers have been awful for a while - a new team name/colours would be like an "Under New Management" sign we see at restaurants.

Atlanta should rip their colour scheme from the Falcons (the way we see in Pittsburgh) and call themselves whatever (Axemen? not sure if there's lumber down there, but...) and Florida dump the Panthers (Big cats don't work in Fla, apparently) for something to do with the sun or weather I guess. Sun Gods? sketchy to use Gods in name. Florida Sunshine? Cripes, just sell the naming rights to the highest bidder and not have to take some equalization payments from the league, for once, ha.
