Pats could surprise by taking CB

08:00 AM ET 04.05 | If, as some believe, the Patriots subscribe to the philosophy that Prince Amukamara has the potential to be a No. 1 cornerback, the Pats could add the player as a luxury. The Patriots have a promising group of cornerbacks, led by youngster Devin McCourty and veteran Leigh Bodden, so that position won't be a top priority in this month's draft. It might not even be in their top five. But head coach Bill Belichick has proven he'll draft talent over need, and there are scenarios in which Nebraska cornerback Amukamara could slide into the middle of the first round. Some believe Amukamara could be a top-seven pick, while others aren't sold on him. If the Patriots are in the former category, would they get aggressive if they see him slip lower than expected?

Today's Tip for Interns:

If you've got a Patriot thread with no picture, put up the one of Tom Brady with Giselle.

they've got so many picks it'll just be interesting to see what they end up with...some pass rushing s/b a top priority.

No wonder Amukamara is considered to be such a highly regarded CB - he sure keeps his eye on the ball.

who were you watching last season? they had one of the youngest defenses in the league and now with all his picks he can add a little to the D and a lot to the offense.

The Hooded One is never happy. Happiness is weakness.

And I think the team is actually younger than they were in the SB years. And, since they'll likely use their draft picks this year rather than trading for veterans, they will get younger still.

As much as the Patriots need a dominant pass rusher, it won't do them any good if the QB can get rid of the ball before he gets there. McCourty was great last year, Bodden is a solid veteran but he has been plaqued by injuries the last two years. Butler is alright, but he lost his job to Arrington at the begining of the season. The Patriots are not going anywhere as long as Brady is healthy and behind center. The defense will get better, and the offense has only one real hole at the line. They need a WR to "stretch the field", but I don't see that as a priority. I think it's funny how much the Patriots offense changed for the better, when they traded Moss.
