08:15 AM ET 04.05 | If you were going by contract, Jim Calhoun has until 2014 on the sidelines, but the fairy tale would have a title run at a career's end. Calhoun, three times a national champion now, can ride off into the sunset and never look back if he likes. Will he, or won't he? Even his wife is not sure. "My gut feeling is that he'll walk away -- some day," his wife, Pat, said with a chuckle, after UConn beat Butler, 53-41 in the NCAA championship game last night. "I never want Jim to retire, unless he wants to retire. He won't make any decision now, I know that for sure." Pressed, she said: "I think it'd be a great exit plan, but it's not my exit plan, so ... " Pat Calhoun has been married to her basketball-lifer husband, a three-time cancer survivor, for 44 years. Her husband will turn 69 next month. "Honestly, it's been our life for so many years, and it's been a good life," she said.

I didn't watch the game... but, the score of 53-41 tells me that had to be one ugly game to view.

In the second half, Butler couldn't have dropped the ball in the ocean if they were standing on the dock...and not all the shots were contested.

Me too brotha, I think he should retire, it is time.

I am hereby eating my words. The Big East is the greatest basketball conference of all time and deserved more than 11 spots in the tourney! They are the equivalent of the SEC in college football.

Mrs. Jim. "i am no better then calipari and our initials are even the same" Calhoun doesnt want his old ass hanging around the house all day.

Or she doesn't want him chasing her arse around the house....

Butler had a record low 18.8% FG shooting in the game. They couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with a handful of beans, even from inside the barn. I'd never seen anything like it. Counting FT attempts, Butler and UConn combined missed 100 shots in the game. Clearly, it was a defensive battle.

Too bad for the Butler Bulldogs. The glass slipper didn't fit again.

See, just like the SEC in football, the Big East is so good that even their 9th place team can win it all. Watch out for Vandy this year in CFB.

Go Commodores.

Hulkleberry, I thought they were 8th.

Or maybe 10th.

Butler couldnt score to save their lives, if they had shot with a "normal" scoring percentage they probably would have won by at least 10 points vs losing by that much...

It was brutal. Butler shot 18% for the game. Props to UCONN though, very good defense. 3 NC's in 12 years. Hard to ignore. That's impressive. What's more impressive is that they finished tied for 9th in their conference. Great run to end the year.

Top to bottom they are certainly the deepest.

That was great defense played by Conn, and it must have been a record for blocked shots. The never got an easy shot that second half.
Game over.

I didn't realize how much bigger they were. They really did play great defense.

I am biased, a Syracuse fan, but so many league games against athletic, physical opponents does prepare you for something.
Like SEC football. You know what a street fight is. You get them on a weekly basis.

And faster. Credit Butler, that is for sure, but there are athletes and then there are Athletes.

That were questionably recruited....

QUOTE(#4):

Me too brotha, I think he should retire, it is time.

On the heels of violations, investigations, etc...

... he and coach K both need to move on.

These last two title games revealed some morbidly flawed and ugly basketball "champions".

Last year's Duke team and this year's UConn team are the two worst title teams that Calhoun and Kryzeski have coached.

That's one perspective...

.. the other is, they were a flawed team that was able to overcome other flawed teams to obtain the title.

Second year in a row where a team with noticeable flaws won the title.

College basketball quality is really slipping.
