08:01 AM ET 04.06 | Tony Gonzalez may not be ready to end his NFL career, but there is a chance that happens. [The] Falcons tight end acknowledges he already might have played his final game if labor unrest wipes out the 2011 season. "That would be devastating because I don't want to go out like that," Gonazalez said Tuesday in a sit-down with Rich Eisen on NFL Total Access. Gonzalez added that he feels great physically, but he doesn't know how his body would react if it were forced out of football for a year. "That would be the only reason I would more than likely not come back," Gonzalez said. "If we miss the whole season and I have to sit out a year, I just think, at 35, sitting out a whole year of football and waiting for it to come back, I just don't know if my body could. I just want to be smart about it."

He's had a good career, even the good ones need to hang it up some time.

I thought he was done when he got moved to Atlanta.....heck of a career

There are plenty of players who should retire before Gonzalez.

It would be really sad to see him retire because of this stupid lockout.

Sad if it happens, but certainly one of the best all-time TEs ever to play.

You know I can understand FN not having a picture for a rookie, but Gonzalez? someone is extra lazy this morning.

And yes it would be sad if he went into retirement this way. and I hope it does not happen.

As long as he's healthy,he'll play another season. Even with the looming lockout. This is one guy who takes care of himself and in truly dedicated to his craft.

Yup... One of the few guys I would have paid to watch.

Hope I see him on a NFL related show - he seems to be a guy that would transitioin well. I could rattle off several NFL "analysts" he could replace...

Said on NFL network that if they play any games this year that he will play. If the whole season is locked out that would be the only way that he may retire.

If he really wanted to retire he would have done so already...he's back for 1 more year.

April 6, 2011  10:37 AM ET

Perfectly understandable if he retires. He'll do well on a NFL broadcast coming to you..........whenever!@#

April 6, 2011  11:13 AM ET

This guy has at least 3 more good years left....he isn't going anywhere.

Gonzo needs a ring to top off an incredible career.
Being awesome with Kansas City during the late 90s and early 2000s should be enough to know just how good he actually is.
