08:05 AM ET 04.06 | At least one member of the Dallas Cowboys hopes three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Tony Romo has to earn the right to retain his starting job. The Cowboys went 1-5 when Romo started last season. They won four of nine games started by 38-year-old backup Jon Kitna after Romo suffered a broken collarbone, including a stretch of three wins in four games immediately after head coach Wade Phillips was fired and replaced by offensive coordinator Jason Garrett. "I loved playing with Kitna," tight end Martellus Bennett said during a Tuesday appearance on ESPN 103.3's Ben & Skin Show. "Kitna is one of my favorite people to play with. Just being out there on the field with that guy just makes you play even harder. He made some things happen in limited time, so I think if he got a longer chance, he'd be able to do more. "I hope there's a chance for a quarterback competition this year. Every position, I think we need to put more competition into it."

Romo will keep his job, Kitna is no threat.

Good old Martellus. He was long overdue to start yapping.

He's not a very bright guy, does he realize that Romo IS the regular starter and that Kitna is a has-been?

I definitely think there should be competition. I mean, check out Kitna's 4-5 record. That would have made the playoffs, right?

Kitna is easily the best of the two.

His play, fire, accuracy, and attitude, and leadership of a confused cowboy team shined last season.

With Bennett's career stats vs what was expected out of him...he should be quiet. But I'd like to see more competition for his spot.

"Kitna! Kitna!! Kitna!!!"

confused? they were more like a bunch of cub scouts in the forest without a compass. absolutely no direction especially for the first half of the season.

that's like a Cowboys fan yelling McNabb..McNabb..Mcnabb. Both teams suck anyway!

When your team's HC is nicknamed "Cupcake", that's never a good sign.

training camp's official name was Camp Cupcake.

I personally think Romo is over-rated. He's decent, but not the star that a lot of people think. Parcels was right to be cautious with him when he first joind the team. So, I definitely agree with the assessment that Romo should compete for the job.

Didn't help that Phillips also fit that description.

He should compete against Stephen McGee.

Another man that looks at the game with logical eyes...

I agree... Kitna showed leadership in the huddle that Romo never has.

Bennett needs to look into the mirror before he start other mess. He is a sorry piece of crap that has not amounted to ANYTHING in the NFL! I look forward to seeing Phillips beat HIM out whenever (if) camps does start!!!

If Romo can't beat out 0-16 Dr. Detroit Kitna, that's says a lot about Romo.

Word....

Plus, I would LOVE to see another year of the Lions 2.0 with Kitna to Roy Williams!!

Is Martellus a Count also?. I wonder if he's related to Dooku?. I need more coffee
