The unthinkable in Chicago: Empty seats (lots of them)

08:18 AM ET 04.06 | Not even a bobblehead day rescued the Cubs from a second poor day of attendance. Cubs manager Mike Quade was perplexed about the seagulls that loitered in the outfield during the game Monday at Wrigley Field. On Tuesday, he jokingly asked any media member with a friend at the National Audubon Society to provide some answers. ... The announced attendance Monday for the fourth game of the season was 26,292, the lowest at the ballpark since 2002. There was a similar scattering of people in the seats Tuesday, even though it was Starlin Castro Bobblehead Day and even though the sun was shining for what would turn out to be a 6-5 Cubs victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The announced attendance was 27,039, a stunning back-to-back development for a franchise used to sellouts.

There are a few teams out there that would have loved to draw that kind of crowd. Cleveland's announced attendance was under 10,000 for last nights game any many said the actual attendance was maybe less than half that. It's still early in the season and if the Cubs play decent ball the attendance will go up.

The comment on the radio this morning is that the Cleveland attendance was closer to 3000 people.

I heard that as well, it's a shame but this is a tough time of year with the weather normally being so cold and kids still in school. I hope this isn't a continuing trend for Cleveland.

Unfortuntely its not going to get much better in Cleveland. Dolan has refused to put any money into the team and us fans are not going to spend our hard earned $$ on a bottom feeder.

Wow. How unthinkable. 26,292 for a cool weather Monday afternoon game in April against a team like the D-backs sounds pretty solid to any franchise. Next.

I agree.....once it warms up a little bit, the crowds will be there.

There were so many empty seats in Yankee Stadium it looked like a pimped out Tropicana Field.

After watching the Red Sox reach new levels of suckness last night, turning the channel to see the Yankees and their new $12M set up man blow their game was a small measure of satisfaction.
