08:17 AM ET 04.07 | Another game, another punchless Cardinals' offensive performance, but there was no routine reaction from their manager. During his televised news conference after the game, Cardinals manager Tony La Russa grew agitated at a repeated line of questioning from reporters about his team's offense. "For everybody listening out there [TV audience], you think I'm being unreasonable? It's the FIRST WEEK OF THE SEASON. I don't understand this. Are you going to tell me Yadier doesn't drive in big runs? Are you going to tell me Albert can't hit? Are you going to tell me the second baseman and shortstops haven't hit? David Freese? You don't think he's going to hit? You think Matt's gong to hit? You think Colby's going to hit? You think Berkman's going to hit? The answer is 'no' to all those things?' Did you [interrogators] accomplish your goal? Three, four times, you ask so I get excited and get upset? That's not fair. It really isn't." Exit stage right for La Russa.

This is the team that TLR put together - forfeiting defense for offense - and the team currently has 4 batters UNDER .200 and one at .200, not counting pitchers, so yes he DOES HAVE TO ANSWER FOR IT!

While I am frustrated - it's the first week and it just happens that 1/2 the guys aren't hitting. Come on. All teams slide sometime - rather now than in September like last year.

"aren't hitting"????? Hell, some of them look like little leaguers at the plate.

Sorry but I stand by what I said. HE IS responsible and to throw a temper tantrum in front of the press the first week is absolutely ludicrous! Perhaps he should say to the press "Yes, we suck" and then take that tantrum to the clubhouse????

Well the lowly Cardinals just lost 2 out of 3 to the powerhouse Pirates and everyone knows that pitching has always been the Pirates strength so I don't see what the problem is.

I'm sorry, but I have to enjoy it while it lasts. Come June Pittsburgh will be in the basement digging holes like they usually are.

QUOTE(#11):

The only other part I disagree with - The media "repeated" questions about hitting. Ask a couple of times then move to something else. Like I said before - Talk about a possible systemic problem at the end of April - the drill him.

I just heard the entire thing and they repeated the question because the first question was answered in true Tony-fashion - a non-answer.

It's too early to panic.......Tony has a point. He's obviously frustrated, but let's wait until 10 or 15 games have been played before overreacting.

tony needs to retire....go practice law someplace....he's an old man and the game has passed him by.......

April 7, 2011  09:23 AM ET

stargate---do you believe pujols is gonna hit at a .200 clip all year? That is what Tony is talking about, they have played SIX games!!! What team do you manage again? How many wins do you have? How many titles do you have?

April 7, 2011  09:24 AM ET

I know its too early to judge the team. I know that, and the media's questions were probably unfair. But you also can't throw a temper tantrum at the podium. Be a man, and answer the question. No one wants to see you flip out.

managers flip out at the podium, it's not just Larussa. If the guy didn't show any emotion then I would be worried. Be a man...really? They were acting like kids asking the same question!!! Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet?

Honest question - do you see the team turning around in 2 weeks, Ten?
