08:31 AM ET 04.07 | Not only were they shut out by the Hurricanes, but the Red Wings lost an important player Wednesday night. They lost, 3-0, to the Carolina Hurricanes, but that wasn't nearly as important as Henrik Zetterberg leaving the game in the first period with what appeared to be an ankle injury. Zetterberg was hit by Carolina defenseman Bryan Allen at the blue line and appeared to turn his ankle. Zetterberg was limping heading into the locker room. "I don't know anything," coach Mike Babcock said. "He got his leg tangled with someone out there. We'll have our own doctors check him out. He probably won't play through this weekend and we'll see after that." ... Zetterberg left the arena before the media entered the Wings locker room.

Story about Zetterberg, picture of Datsyuk....

Tough loss for the Red Wings, losing Zetterberg.

i am not sure how badly the Wings,Cannots,or Sharks would want to face Anaheim first round. The Ducks seem to be the Western Team peaking at the most opportune time.

Before the first cup of coffee all hockey players look alike to the interns. At least they got the right color jersey.

If its a bad sprain he'll be out longer than just the weekend. That will hurt the Wings, but will open things up for the Nucks and the Ducks.

If the goal that the people in T****o gave Hossa last night was good then Matt Cooke deserves the Lady Bing.

Certainly music to the ears of the 'Hawks and their fans, with back-to-back games to close out the season against these guys. No Hank to shut down Toews/Kane will make it a tough couple nights for the Wings.

Been a failry bad luck year for Detroit. Here's hoping these trials and tribulations end on Sunday and they can get back to playing hockey the way we are all used to seeing them play. The playoffs are a better tourney with the Wings in contention.

Still undecided on that Hossa goal - not as cut and dry as the detractors want to make it. Funny that Ty Conklin, of all people, came out with the statement about it not needing to be any more obvious that the league wants Chicago in the dance.

Ty Conklin ex Oiler hero of the Flames fan ;-)

Canuck obviously neglected to let the Wings know that he no longer needs the Canes to oust the Leafs.

My only hope is that the Wings, with nothing to play for, are also playing possum ... just like the Flyers. :-)

Canuck loves all things T*****o. Doesn't he?

Any goal that goes in should count. Another stupid rule. If someone is talented enough to kick it in, he should get credit for it.

I love that he said it. If the war room can't get a call right after the fact with eleventy billion different angles and slo-mo, what's the point of instant replay? It absolutely stuns me stupid how often they make the OBVIOUSLY WRONG CALL with the help of eleventy billion angles and slo-mo.

It may not be obviouis that the league want Chicago in the dance, but it is fairly obvious they lack accountability in almost every aspect of officiating the game.

Absolutely. Like flipping on the telly last night and what's the TSN panel talking about? Playoff implications for last nights game? Hart Trophy candidate? Playoff goaltending?

NO they're talking about what tonight's meaningless game means to the Leafs.

And then McGuire guarantees the Leafs make the playoffs "next year."

What's not to like Roamer?

You're right, Canuck. The gift that keeps on giving. Perfect.

Yeah - little to say about the Torres hit. Nothing about the Wings and Flyers freefalls. Couldn't have told you for my life who sat in which seed at that time, because it was more important to talk about a failure of a team that only won games when they stopped mattering and who have lived by the "Next Year" mantra for 40+ years. Heaven forbid they talk about teams that are relevant, eh?

The guys on Vs. were talking about this and saying the replay people needed to see clear evidence that Hossa's stick didn't touch the puck to overrule the ref. Seeing that play from above in super duper slo mo, it is plain to see that the puck never changed course even a millimeter after Hossa tried to hit it with his stick. A clear kick in if ever there was one. Even Roenick made this point before he changed course and said the goal was good.

The rule is there mainly for safety. The last thing the league needs is someone kicking at the puck, losing balance and then slicing someone open with a skate...

The Line is unstoppable as well.
