08:43 AM ET 04.09 | St. John's coach Steve Lavin hosted the Women's Coaches vs. Cancer Luncheon at the Final Four in Houston last week. Little did most of those in attendance know that Lavin was all too familiar with the subject. Lavin was diagnosed with prostate cancer in the fall, and yesterday, St. John's announced he will begin treatment immediately. Lavin, 46, will continue his coaching duties without interruption. April is a crucial month in recruiting, and Lavin already has plans in place to see several recruits.

I hope he has a successful and quick recovery. It's gotta be extremely tough to put in all the hours of coaching and deal with cancer treatments at the same time.

Cancer won't stop him from coaching... until it does. He's young and prostate cancer is slow-growing. They'll zap him with some radioactive beads and he'll be good to go.
