I think it would be stupid for Carolina to pick him. I think he'll be a good NFL QB, but for Carolina to go for something other than protection for Clausen is foolish. Mallett won't fair any better if not given any weapons or protection.

Ok, maybe Carolina can take him - if he slips to round 3.

I keep getting this odd feeling that given all of Mallet 's problems and red flags that Mike Brown is still going to be stupid enough to take this guy over either trading for Kolb or taking Ponder who would really fit well in the new offense. But such is the life of a Bengals fan.

There was something wrong with this guy and I can't remember what it was.

He has character issues that we're allowed to talk about, unlike another highly-touted QB prospect.

Mallett is the best quarterback in this draft for his skill set. Newton is best at every system the Marino type offense Mallett is better at. You want to go deep alot then Mallett is your guy. Any other system I take Newton.

Locker is number three then Ponder number four and maybe Gabbet five. That is if He can stay out of bar/pizza fights.

Agreed.
Ideally the #1 overall pick should be used on a left tackle. But there's no offensive lineman worthy of top five consideration.
I really think they should simply take the best player available. Which, in this draft, is definitely not a quarterback.

Now, now, now...Otis. I am an SEC fan, but realistic and I can spell and string together a coherent sentence. I watched Mallett play and he has issues...footwork, mobility and decision making. Remember Arkansas was one play away from beating Ohio State...interception...bad decision.
I remember the draft of 83 and the rumors of drug use surrounding Dan marino...all untrue. All of these qb's have some issues and basically it's a crap shoot, just my opinion.
I am an SEC fan, but above all else I am a football fan.

Carolina needs weapons and protection for the QB. They've been a 1 stud-receiver team since Moose left for the Bears. If I were them I'd trade the pick for a 1st and 2nd, and grab AJ Green and a Gabe Carimi/Nate Solder. Clausen sucks because everyone else sucks.

I think TN would be a very good fit for this guy. A good but not great O-line, very good young WR, outstanding RB. As long as he comes out with a clear head and not the "Leaf" attitude, then he would be a ProBowl QB in no time.

bottom line is someone is going to take him in the first round.

Agreed, its like the Russell and Boller. Once that rare bazooka arm is displayed, someone will take a chance and hope for the best.
