Were A's Barry's last chance?

The Oakland Athletics could use a big bat, and the San Francisco Bay Area is the only place in America where Barry Bonds is not roundly booed. So, when the A's put together a long list of players worth exploring this winter, they put Bonds' name on the list. "I can't say there was great interest," A's owner Lew Wolff said. That slim chance might have been Bonds' best chance to secure a contract next season. By indicting him on felony charges of perjury and obstruction of justice Thursday, the federal government might have ended Bonds' illustrious yet controversial career.

The San Quentin Saints are in desperate need of a left handed power threat.

Fat chance!

This guy will be yapping about a comeback for the rest of his life.

First he will go after Minnie Minoso's record for playing in most decades, then that leaves "Double Duty" Radcliffe's record for the oldest to have played all time....

Face it, the Barry Saga is just getting warmed up.

November 18, 2007  10:02 AM ET

that image of him scares me. it belongs in a Shining remake with Barry's bobblehead busting through a door screaming, "Herrree's Barrrry!"

wanted, heh. the sing sing songbirds are still considering singing him as well.

The Crips are looking for a clean up hitter in the Federal Pen League. It is a drug free zone though.

barry loves san fransico how about the Alcatraz Astricks?

November 18, 2007  11:35 AM ET

The enitire MLB system is riddled with juiced players....do not fool yourself.

Love him or hate him....he's your brother.

Why hate him and not the rest of the players....who have done steroids....and did not do anything for their pay?

Let the jury in San Fran find him guilty....

He has done enough.....more than any other player.

The A's need more help than he and Arod could bring.

November 18, 2007  11:45 AM ET

It's best that Barry keeps the juiced muscles for better protection in jail. Ouch!

November 18, 2007  12:09 PM ET

I suppose if they get Bonds then changing the team name to Oakland**** would be appropriate....LOL

Well,Barry Bonds, the king of the home run record was indicted last week for lying about steroids; pergery. It seems that Barry Bonds career is all but over.If found guilty he would be sent to prison on federal charges and the sentencing could be up to five or more years in prison. The chances are slim to none that any team in the San Fran/Oakland area would want him in a few years let alone now.You know he's going to try to make a comeback who wants him?Not the athletics, but the Minor league.Could you see Barry in the minors? I could, either way Barry's "magnicient" baseball career is ruined and should definetly contain an asterisk*****.

November 18, 2007  01:48 PM ET

What is pergery and magnicient?

November 18, 2007  01:51 PM ET

Interesting how in this World/Time of "acceptance" ... Not much has changed! I just read an interesting article in the Sunday, Nov. 18th NY times by Murray Chass. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/11/18/sports/baseball/18chass.html?_ r=1&oref=slogin It's a all about the" first" Drug Test in baseball history and how it not only ruined that player's career but his life. The player was Babe Dahlgren...he's the guy the replaced Lou Gehrig.

who cares he sucks

November 18, 2007  03:04 PM ET

Barry bonds is done i dont think any team is willing to take the chance specialy with all the trouble thats ahead for him ..baseball as a hole has been thru it ...

November 18, 2007  05:14 PM ET

Uh....anyone who knows anything about baseball knows A's fans are a whole different breed from Giants fans. A's fans would grill and mock Barroid during every at-bat until they got tired, i.e. perhaps at the last game, LOL, are you kidding, whomever wrote that piece???

November 18, 2007  09:42 PM ET

people don't booo him in pitsburg.. just shows you what people in LA know

November 18, 2007  11:54 PM ET

Prison, a drug free zone? Hellloooo! About as accurate as pergery, magnicient ...and definetly.

November 19, 2007  12:32 AM ET

Thank God the A's won't touch him.

November 19, 2007  01:13 AM ET

Is Pitsburgh in the same state where pergery, magnicient ...and definetly are not incorrectly spelled?
