10:07 AM ET 04.10 | Carlo Ancelotti has 90 minutes to save his Chelsea job. For a long time the word on the street has been that he would leave the club in the summer anyway. Elimination from Europe at the last-eight stage would end the discussion.

Maybe it's just me, but I would ask two questions before letting go of a quality manager like Carlo:

1. What exactly has he not done, or done wrong?
2. Would anyone have gotten different results out of this squad? I'm definitely no Chelski apologist but when Lampard was down this year the just don't have anyone on the squad who can fill his role. And without him, there's no bite.

Yesterday's LAG/DCU match was amateur night on two fronts.

1. That was one of the worst officiated games I've seen, and having been a LAG STH for 4 years, that's saying quite a bit. Obviously that PK was a joke, but more so when you consider that Okulaja looked the other way on about 4 more legit opportunities to point to the spot. If you're not going to call it all game long, don't do it in the 89th... Let's see, he also lost complete control of the game on about 3 different occasions

2. Chaz, dude, you scored a PK that you probably didn't deserve. You didn't hit a 30 yard laser that ripped a hole in the back of the net. You've played and scored in the Confed Cup, act like you've been there before. I understand that gifts from above seem to be the only way that DCU scores this year, but really?

isn't this a common theme at the end of every Chelsea season?

It comes with investing hundreds of millions of euro. I don't like it, but it's par for the course.

I guess there's something to be said for stability, because their friends up in Manchester have been making winning a pretty stable tradition along with their stable coach. If the management isn't strong & stable, how are the prized stallions supposed to respect ad fall into line? Too many egoes, not enough discipline, winning takes time.

Chelski is in the top 3 in the Premier League and FWIS Acelotti hasn't done much to warrant him getting sent to the unemployment line. On the hot seat, sure, I guess you could put him there, but I would place people like $50 mil waste of space Fernando Torres on there first.

Valencia is really taking it to Villareal. This brings up two things:

1. Isn't it funny the way all those shots on goal that didn't go in against Shalke in the CL are now going in? Valencia are now up to 8 goals over the last 150+ minutes of soccer (5 by Soldado), but they are not really creating that many more scoring chances. It's just that now they are putting them away.

2. Is it really a surprise any longer that clubs involved in midweek European games often suffer a let down in the league the following weekend? Barcelona certainly did yesterday even if they were able to pull it out in the end and Villareal today is almost unrecognizable.

Ups. Make that 9 goals over the past 160 minutes of soccer (and now 6 by Soldado)

Geez - guess winning the double last year and maintaining a UCL spot in a year with multiple injuries and massive personnel changes isn't enough.

Welcome to Roma, Carlo.

Mike Bradley not even in the 18 for Villa's game vs. Newcastle. If Houllier stays (still in doubt), where does Bradley wind up next year? Everton? Sunderland (now that they've figured out Muntari isn't that great)?

Sunderland would be my bet.

I have to assume Bradley won't be at Villa longer than he has to. Houllier has been a disaster, no question, but I'd be shocked if whomever is brought in next season at Villa Park decides to sign Bradley. A new manager will want to bring in his own players. I don't see Sunderland or Everton being in play. At this point, I think it will be a newly promoted side or possibly even Championship football for Bradley. Just a stunning turn of events for him this season.

Between losing Lampard and Essien for long stretches this season, along with the fall out from the Terry scandal, I'd say Ancelotti has done pretty well. Doesn't bother me that Chelski goes through managers like Charlie Sheen goes through bags of cocaine, but a guy like Ancelotti deserves better. I'm sure Roma is excited by his impending arrival, as well they should be.
