Cowboys-Redskins rivalry dying?

It got so mouthy and chippy in the Meadowlands last week that, at least in the opinion of several Cowboys players, their most intense NFC East rivalry no longer involves today's opponent, the Redskins, or even the hated Eagles. It's the Giants. Even if the Valley Ranch opinions are right, and the Giants' rivalry is now the most bitter in the division, nothing has changed in Washington. On that city's hate parade, the Cowboys are still No. 1.

Because the Skins don't have the killer instinct that Dallas has....yes, this rivalry is not as intense as it has been in years before. If the Skins can ever wake up and start playing to win in the second half of games, watch for this rivalry to get quite heated.

I wonder if coach Gibbs realizes that 19 or 20 points won't be nearly enough points to beat the Cowboys. Maybe Gibbs and Saunders will wake up and allow QB Jason Campbell to actually throw the ball down the field on a regular basis today...

bel, dunno pats have made amazing strides this season towards that title.

November 18, 2007  10:06 AM ET

still hate the Eagles more but its a close call.

November 18, 2007  10:23 AM ET

It's still a rivalry,,,and they both hate each other, and
I hate to say it, but Redskins are not on the same
level as the Cboys this year...good news is Cboys
won't be going deep into playoffs...

Are you kidding me! Rivalry dying? George Allen is spinning in his grave at the thought! I've got a buddy who will be at the game, who's threatening to run out and **** on the star, while wearing his Shawn Taylor jersey! GEORGE ALLEN WOULD BE PROUD!

Being a long time Giant fan I may be biased, but the great thing about the NFC East Division is all the games you play against your division rivals is special. Every year, regardless of the record.
The Cowboys are up now, but it was just as much fun watching them get beat when they were bottom feeders most of the last eleven years.
Go Redskins....

November 18, 2007  10:45 AM ET

the cowgirls will hate the skins if the skins score a win today and knock dallas off their pedestal

November 18, 2007  11:22 AM ET

Can I smell a hater or two on this blog? Give the boys the respect they deserve haters, they've earned it by beating every team that doesn't have to cheat to win! The patriots will see a different Dallas team in Arizona this year. If they beat the Cowboys twice, it will be a lot closer than you think. What am I saying? The patriots can't beat a healthy Dallas team!

Of course if the Skins win today, tomorrows headlines will read, Skins Most Hated Team Of Cowboys.

haha nice av

This was a good rivarly when both teams were good but this was never a great rivarly since you would barely see any of the other teams fans in the stands. Great rivarlies are the close ones were the fans invade each others stadium and start some anarchy in the stands. Browns-Steelers and the Packer-Vikings are example of great rivarlies.

November 18, 2007  12:33 PM ET

the steelers came and went, as did the packers and 49ers, the eagles/gaints we love to hate, but for 47 yrs we still despise the redskins the most...hate'em just hate'em (long live clint longley)

November 18, 2007  12:33 PM ET

I can't stand either team, but I will usually watch a little bit of the game. So I would probably disagree with that statement.

November 18, 2007  12:35 PM ET

Love all the Cowboys haters, you hate us because we are the best team in football. I know, the Pats beat us, but just watch, the Boys will win the one that counts!!!!!!

this article is stupid. just stupid. its been a rivalry for ever, that's just like saying "OH, I felt that the vikings and packers game is more of a rivarly now". nice try, but redskins vs. cowboys IS the rivarly. ever heard of cowboys vs. indians... NEXT TOPIC.

November 18, 2007  12:36 PM ET

It definitely isn't as intense. As a Cowboys fan, I see the players jawing with the Giants more than they do with the Redskins.

Heath, two things. First, you spelled Sean wrong. Way to be a fan. And second, even if you do have this buddy, I doubt he would do that. And if he did... well, typical Skins fan.

Is the rivalry of the Cowboys-Redskins dying?no.Is the rivalry less intense?Looks to be happening ever since the old days the Cowboys and the Redskins were powerhouses in their divisions.Ever since Gibbs
Redskin's and the Cowboys once coached by Parcells have become mediocre. That happened until Tony Romo took over and the cowboys became good.Look at the current standings,Big D is 8-1 and the Skins are 5-4.The players still hate each other but the records tell otherwise.

My pick for the Redskins -Dallas game is Dallas over Redskins 27-14
