08:24 AM ET 04.12 | John Tortorella will take care of the lying, and he'll hope to leave being stupid to his players. "I watched every minute of it, my son and I, in this practice facility," Tortorella said of the Hurricanes' loss to the Lightning that put the Rangers in the playoffs -- a game he had said on Saturday afternoon that he would not be watching. "So I lied to ya." Tortorella may also be lying when he says he does not know what his Game 1 lineup will look like, but he is telling the truth about the way he feels about the Rangers' mindset heading into the playoffs, and a lack of nerves about their lack of playoff experience. "I was fortunate enough to be involved with a team that, we didn't have a clue what we were doing," Tortorella said. "So I hope we're a real stupid team, as far as that's concerned."

I only saw the middle one. Actually, I sort of like Torts saying he lied to the press. Most of 'em are too dumb to know that it's hockey season until the game starts. Personally, I think everybody ought to lie to them until they can get some reporters/columnists/announcers with an IQ which is higher than the temperature in Edmonton in late January.

Also, I just like his soundbites. He may be annoyingly convinced that he is the smartest guy in any room he's in, but Torts is almost always good for a quote. Besides, why wouldn't he lie? Reporters these days expect answers to questions they have no business asking - and wouldn't have back in the day. Why bother answering? How else is he supposed to respond when some idiot asks him what his game plan is going to be?
