Tortorella admits lie to media

08:24 AM ET 04.12 | John Tortorella will take care of the lying, and he'll hope to leave being stupid to his players. "I watched every minute of it, my son and I, in this practice facility," Tortorella said of the Hurricanes' loss to the Lightning that put the Rangers in the playoffs -- a game he had said on Saturday afternoon that he would not be watching. "So I lied to ya." Tortorella may also be lying when he says he does not know what his Game 1 lineup will look like, but he is telling the truth about the way he feels about the Rangers' mindset heading into the playoffs, and a lack of nerves about their lack of playoff experience. "I was fortunate enough to be involved with a team that, we didn't have a clue what we were doing," Tortorella said. "So I hope we're a real stupid team, as far as that's concerned."

"So I hope we're a real stupid team."

Well you've got Averhole so there's a good start.

Can't get much stupider than that. Torts holds his own in the stupid department too. So the Rangers strategy is to do stupid things to throw the Caps off? Sounds like a plan.

History tells us the Caps do not need any help to throw them off in the playoffs.

Tough to argue with him.

"So I lied to ya! Count my fingers...! Twice I lied to ya!"

April 12, 2011  10:08 AM ET

I have taken Wash to win.

But my heart will be with The Avery.

I only saw the middle one. Actually, I sort of like Torts saying he lied to the press. Most of 'em are too dumb to know that it's hockey season until the game starts. Personally, I think everybody ought to lie to them until they can get some reporters/columnists/announcers with an IQ which is higher than the temperature in Edmonton in late January.

AMEN!!!

Also, I just like his soundbites. He may be annoyingly convinced that he is the smartest guy in any room he's in, but Torts is almost always good for a quote. Besides, why wouldn't he lie? Reporters these days expect answers to questions they have no business asking - and wouldn't have back in the day. Why bother answering? How else is he supposed to respond when some idiot asks him what his game plan is going to be?

Unfortunately your heart might might be riding the pine.

Sure you can. Have Matt Cooke on your team. ;)

Torts is lying to his team, too. He's telling them they have a chance to win the series.

Rangers have more personality than Canes, glad they're in.

Agreed. Any Poindexter has "more personality than the Canes."

AGREED! So sick of the stupidest question(s) in the world being asked! The main one I hate the most is "How do you feel..." "You just lost your country's only hope at a medal with that game - how do you feel right now?"

LMAO! Wouldn't you like to answer those questions?

A. Just grateful that my kids aren't stupid like you.

The total lack of insight in sports reporting/journalism is really depressing. True in all journalism I guess.
